Am i the only one who finds Tvs NOT worth it?'

Day or two back i stated how i clipped cords of tvs while curbshopping. Came under fire for this . Remeber reading while back that to some of you guys dont find them worth it. I find them not worth it , theres a recycling center 15-20 miles away they ONLY take 5 a day . And they take record of your name and if your a bussiness or "resident" . So eventually if your moving volume there going to figure what your running and dig alittle deeper , last thing i need is a couple of tons of leaded glass on my property. Sure You ak 3 to $5 a tv but with gas and having handle and move them , load on truck , unload them , unscrew jacket , rescrew jacket , load back on truck , unload them . To me its not worth it. Whats everybody think ?? Freedom of speech remeber

I leave them or charge people to take them. I've also hurt myself lifting those big glass tubes from Trinitrons, so I try to steer clear from them as much as I can.

What I don't agree with is the whole clipping cords deal. To me, it's either take the WHOLE thing or leave it for the next guy. I would be pretty mad as a homeowner if someone cherry picked and made a possibly usable object unusable to someone who may want it.

I agree entirely to an extent gravitar , but the thing is the tvs will never end up with someone who needs them . I live in a very wealthy (stuck up) town. The kids here throw away there change because they dont like carrying it and the sound it makes. There parents have and always will give them everything . The garbage company doesnt take them so they sit there and the town ends up with them and they profit , and the employess pocket the cords and make money . I dont really like my township so i take satsfaction in doing it lol

I don't think TVs or CRTs are worth it. I charge to take either. I've simply got too much other stuff waiting to be processed to fool around with them.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

i dont touch tube televisions as it is the only one i actually have and use is the one in my bedroom and thats because i use my 23 inch that i got from scrapping (thought power supply was bad turned out to be faulty cord LOL) is now the monitor on my computer. I offer free disposal of flat panel televisions and monitors, as long as the screens are not broken. I charge for crt monitors. Otherwise i don't even take them. Then i just sit them in my shed until i get enough and then i will haul the whole lot to someone who wants to take the time to deal with them

JM $.02 but you have a better chance hurting yourself trying to lift/dropping it on, yourself to go anywhere near them.

I only take them if they have other stuff I am getting as well. I generally dont pick up curb items but i do not have a problem with someone cutting cords as long as they are not making a mess. There out there because someone else didnt want them.

I'm with you redcrossnj, there's not nearly enough profit in those CRT's even when charging to dispose. Call me crazy but for the 5 bucks or so of scrap in them i have better things to do, and my back thanks me the next day lol.

I don't see the problem with cutting the cords, and if I were Curbco shopping would probably do the same. TVs are just NOT worth dealing with, IMHO, but a 55 gallon drum of #2 insulated is a nice bit of change in my pocket.

If I had somewhere to take the tubes then I wouldn't mind scrapping TVs. I only take TVs from family or friends right now, but I still have a pile of them unprocessed. Best Buy will take 2 per person per day, but its a 45 minute drive for me one way. Thrift stores in town will not take them. One will but they won't take them if the cords are cut, but once they have more than what they usually keep on hand they will give them out to scrappers.

If i'm having a rough night and can't find anything or I'm in a good mood i'll pick them up. I draw the line if they are too big like sony trintrons, etc. rcas aren't worth because of the stupid glued on yoke. Around here you can stills throw them away and if I don't pick them up, they will get crushed whole inside the garbage truck. I'll always clip the cord if I don't pick up the whole t.v. If I don't someone else will.

It's the problem of disposing them for me, at least 45 minutes to the closest best buy and taking tv's would be the only reason i would be going that way, with the price of fuel up, i just cant justify it, but i wouldnt mind a drum of cutoffs.

It depends on size for me. I'm a part timer with minimal storage space. So if it is 20"or below, I take it. I take the crt monitors as well because they tend to have more copper in the yokes. If it is too big for the trunk, I cut the cord and go. Like some have said here, if I don't, someone else will. The reason these tube TVs are so easy to find is because no one wants them, even for free. So I don't feel bad about making them unusable by taking the cord.

I will take them from my bigger pickup spots if it's one or two, never by themselves.
the cost for me is $10 a piece up to 36'' and $15 a piece for anything larger to get rid of the glass and shell.
But at least it is done properly.

The three Best Buys in my area now only accept 2 tv/monitors a month. I am very limited on space but I will take monitors from friends at no charge knowing that they are telling their friends about my services. I had a woman I work with give me 4 monitors and giant TV. True it is a gamble doing this for free, but there is always a pay off.

I will take them all day long. I have a best buy less than ten minutes from my house and is on the way to several apartment complexes that I search. Plus several others around town never been questioned just asked how many do you have a they print a receipt. Simple and easy and normally they help me offload and take more than the maximum of three a day. So for me it is worth it.
