Am i the only one who finds Tvs NOT worth it?' - Page 3

I'm against doing it on the side of the road, cause of the fact it can still get smashed up, an becomes a hazard to folks walking, driving, playing, etc. If it was in a trash pile an the local company took them it might be different though, but just sitting on the side of the road..no, I take it all.

I'm odd an a little crazy tho, or is it crazy an a little odd..feh.

I am taking them now selectively. Disposal of cases is still an issue, but working a possible angle on plastic. CRTs are a problem. I'm still early in and strictly p/t at the moment, but trying to "pick up the pace" with the new year. Haven't timed myself on a breakdown, but I'm under 10 minutes. At that rate (exclusive of other costs), I think it's a decent return on the time. Biggest issue for me right now is getting rid of "leftovers".

*edit* - also, main reason for taking tv's at all is the absence of a large amount of better "stuff" at the moment.

Someone in the tread said they are getting .08c. Do you mean your being charged .08c. My sources require a cradle to grave upstream and down stream venders list. So I'm stuck paying .10 to get off them. In turn my buyer then gets paid .02 c for his whole trailer. I'd be quite angry if he was bs ing about his truck load price. This is on a few hundred units a week.

I'd like to process but I'm not r2 yet and won't be for while. It's. Way to expensive and I ewaste is a side to my main dish.


I really love this ewaste recycling.

I wasn't to be the memory king next.

Any of you guys into memory. Ram sticks sd cards and emmc??? They don't ever go bad you can get as scrap and some have great resale value.

Back to tv's anyone in new England area want tv's wrapped in pallets 20k lbs easy a month. I'm forced to take. You need to be able to provide me with some good paperwork.

I'm cutting my teeth as a scrapper by taking monitors and televisions. They are all over the place, I've become efficient at breaking them down, and folks often have other goodies for me when I take their sets. It surely also helps that my county garbage transfer station will let me drop off an unlimited number of tubes and carcasses for recycling. By the way, I never cut cords but always take the whole whatever-it-is when I curb shop. I acknowledge that as a rookie I don't value my time as I might later when I look more to the bottom line. I'll have to see how that goes.

I get $.04 for them but have to take them about 20 miles away. Still deciding on which way I like.

I don't think it should be this way. Why such a local and national difference. These are the biggest problem to me in ewaste. In my opinion. I'm new to ewaste. Charging encourages drop offs in the woods and people just bashing them apart for the good stuff.

Look at the auto battery. It's program went from a disaster to the one or the highest regarded recycling programs in the country.

97 percent of all batteries sold come back to be remade.

There's no money in it. So dont think about adding it to your down line. Lol. No money in batteries. Just fun to do!! Lol.

I just yesterday lined up a deal with traceable paperwork and I don't have to pay. Yes you may be able to find a buyer for crv but I wouldn't bet the house on it that they are certified and doing it right.

I'd rather pay a little for peace of mind. But now I don't have to. My buyer will take my printers microwaves and other stuff if sell as light to offset the CRT cost. Really what I'm trying to do is lock in as many Transfer stations that I can to take all the material.

At least before waste management comes in and sticks their corporate hands into my little pie. Just started with ewaste, but been doing batts from these tons and cities for years.

Anyways. Any other ideas how to profit on CRT and do it accountable and make $$??

We are all for profit recyclers. Let's face the facts. You must care about the planet too right. I know you all do so lets do it right.

I mainly won't pick them up because of the tube, yes I can throw them away but everything has to fit in one of those trash cans provided by the city.

Google 'Trinitron' & see what it means...
Basicly they have a thicker degaussing coil because it has to be so 'exact' for the screen/picture to come out correct.

where I live the only problem is the abs plastic... the weekly trash pickup will take them in the trash can so I can pull boards, degauss wire and yolk copper, if they are larger than 22" ill grind metal band and pull that, pop tube in can, smash glass to compact and maby put 2/3 at most per can. lol... but TV's are a pain but if your board sure do a few.

Town and city transferstations. Around here its almost impossible to find a buyer. Im lucky to get off them so easy, it cost me. Im charging a flat rate and making a margin. I just dont have the time to take them apart or the right paperwork. To keep working with many of my clients I must show up and or down stream. Kinda takes the fun outa doing it myself. LOL

They are everywhere. Tvs and monitors. I do some recycling drives that include a donation fee for tvs too. Its not making me much $$ yet.

I to am in Indiana and Mechanic688 is exactly correct about State laws here. There is a company in Upper Sandusky, Ohio known as Dlubak Glass that processes CRT glass. It COSTS me 15 cents per pound to get CRT's processed properly. That's $15 for a 100 pound TV. I haven't ever found $15 worth of recyclable materials in a TV. A little bit of copper wire (a lot are aluminum wire anodized to look like copper) at $2.75 a pound, 25 cents a pound for the worthless circuit board, and 5 cents a pound for the plastic PLUS I have to pay my people to take them apart. You tell me how it is worth it without charging a recycling fee.
