    Craigslist ad... Ruining other "scrappers"?

I have an ethical question that may seem pretty simple to answer.
If I were to put in a craigslist ad that I will locally pick up unwanted electronics, would it be wrong or giving other scrappers a bad rap if I asked if the donors are tired of cut cords, broken glass, and a mess at their curb by other "scrappers"?
I ask because I don't want to step on toes, but have noticed most Clist posts around here seem like they were constructed by someone who never graduated 8th grade English... And have noticed on my local trash nights that we have a pretty regular cord-cut-and-go type of scrapper.
We are not allowed to leave electronics for the trash guys, but homeowners still do, knowing they will be picked up one way or another. I guess I just don't want to come off as high and mighty, plus I believe if I respectfully take their unwanted junk, I may just have that one homeowner who works in an IT department and has the ability and willingness to offer a massive pile of old computers...
I guess what I'm asking is; Would it piss you guys/gals off to see an ad on clist that seemed like a pretentious **** making all other scrappers seem like crackheads (of course I would not put it that way)?

I would say go for it you have to let the customers know that you are going to be respectful and not leave a huge mess.

I would go for it. But instead of point a finger at the bad guys just point out what you are going to do i.e. not leave a mess and be respectful of there neighbors and property. That way if an unethical scraper sees your add I think it will be less likely to turn into a pissing match. If you point a finger usually one gets pointed back.

    Good luck

    Craigslist ad... Ruining other "scrappers"?

Well I decided to go ahead and make a post. Got flagged and removed from the free section, but got a call within 45 minutes from a giy who wants to get rid of tv's, monitors, and some cable boxes... Never had one of those before!!! Should meet him tomorrow. I can't wait!

There is a big difference between scrappers and scavengers.

My wife was defending the scrapper buz to someone the other day. She likened it to a coyote...as an opportunist who cleans up stuff that others don't want. Its not glamorous, its not always fun, but its a needed service.

That got me thinkin....I'm a scrapper but I hafta occasionally shoot coyotes 'cause they are threatening our stock.....unh...oh, crap!

TVs, Monitors and cable boxes? All the stuff nobody else wanted. Be careful.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Cable boxes are ok. Not tons of money in them but not a ton of plastic to deal with either. Make sure you have a way to properly dispose of the TVs and monitors before your start taking too many.

I'll take cable/satellite boxes all day long, there's good money for no longer than it takes to open up and strip. Like was said, almost no plastic.

ill vouch for that I just got back from one of my yards and there was a whole pile of cable boxes in the shred pile , there was one broken open . it had a sheet covering of aluminum and the rest was medium grade boards I think and tin . Too bad I cant afford to buy anything this week

Keep this in mind, no bad deed goes unpunished and no good deed goes unrewarded. Go about just your business and post just that. The other things will take care of itself.

    Craigslist ad... Ruining other "scrappers"?

I can get rid of three CRTs a day at bestbuy which is kinda out of my way, but if im going that way its no big deal. My problem is storage, I work out of the basement and everything has to go down some narrow steps, one of which is what we call a "scottish castle" step, cuz its taller than the others...
