20 comercial ac units

I have access to 20 comercial ac units ranging from 15-20 tons made by trane and carrier. How much could I get in scrap?

(all r22 has been recovered)

assuming you mean 30-40,000 #'s, you could get $4000 to $6000 shred... each. This would be minus the extremely large forklift and truck bed to haul it if you cannot break it down at the site. And the cost of your time

would get quite a bit above that if you do some small sorting, grab copper, get condensers, separate motor, etc.

Do it and report back. best way to tell. No risk isn't profitable, all risk is dangerous.


My method would be to take very conservative guesses on the matetial makeup of the unit (put the highest weight percentages in the lowest paying categories). Base your decision off of that number, you should be happy you low balled your estimate if you do scrap it.

Yeah 15-20 tons is the capacity. Has anyone scrapped a larger ac unit like this?

One thing to check on is your local yard and their policy regarding A/C units. My local yard I normally use won't take any A/C stuff w/out an HVAC license.

Contract a yard and work out a deal. Deliver and dissasemble at scrap yard. No freon even sweeter. Load in containers. I can help for half. Standard partner deal or haggle for % O_o·

I need one of those cranes!

If you were in Cali I would take you up on it. How much you think I could get?

Freonjoe is who you should look for, tho there are plenty of others that will give you an idea as Mech said. Lots of info here on AC jobs. Me..I go with Joe, it's what he does.
