junk signs on your truck

i was thinking of maybe getting some junk signs for my truck. the kind that has the magnet on them so you can just take them off when needed.
anyone have any on there trucks? i'm mainly looking for junk car signs. can anyone post theres by a chance so i can get an idea and examples on how to word mine?
also would i need an dot# or anything like that if i put one on my truck? i been posting ads on craigslist but not getting much response! so i figure maybe if i put something on the truck if that might help. don't like seeing my car trailer parked need to make some money. any idea's?

Your state law may vary, but the USDOT rule is you only need a number on your truck if it has a GVWR of 10,000 lbs or more. I actually called them and they told me I dont need one.

I prefer staying under the radar, so I wouldn't do signs, personally. If you are already operating as a business, though, it sounds like a smart idea.

ok if i put signs on my truck? what are the benefits signing up as a business? also is it worth it in the long run? how do i do that?
i'm just trying to find other ways to advertise since all my ad on craigslist seem to get flagged! they flag them and i just repost them.

Besides taxes, it makes you legit in the eyes of the law, an client/customers. Vast numbers of reason to go the business route.

This time a bunch.

Once the wife and I get into a house. I will evaluate if it is large enough for me to start my business on. This will be a catch-all for everything I do on the side (buy/sell, antiques, truck part outs, scrapping/niche scrapping, etc.)

You wouldn't believe how nice it is to be able to claim that many things, it does make for more work for keeping track of everything though.

Yes, one learns to keep track of such things as receipts, an all that other goodness that can be written off in the name of work.

I found it was well worth it. So was becoming a legit wholesaler. Easier to do these things then people think.

Nebraska......you don't need a commercial license (plate and driver's lisc) unless your GVWR is over 26,000. If you live in town you probably already have commercial plates. My business is a sideline to a farm so it's just another form to fill out and I keep track of fuel bills and deposit my receipts in the bank.

If you're a small time operator, it likely won't increase your business to put a sign on your truck any more than it would to just spread the word that you're a scrapper. You might hang flyers around bordering towns in the coffee shops. Better yet, go drink coffee with the "boys". I pick up alot of business that way.

Like jord said, a sign screams audit....it also screams DOT, HERE I AM !!
