Potential bid on multiple pallets of microwaves.

I have the opportunity to bid on a couple or more pallets of microwaves. Kinda of name your price type deal. They all vary in age and model. Each pallet is almost a complete cube.

The organization that has them needs to make room. I plan on doing a complete strip for each one. Possible selling the magnetrons on ebay. Since I cannot weight them individually, I was thinking US$1/microwave.

    Is that too much?

I found two older threads that gives some pros and cons:

    http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/gener...rowaves-2.html

I am aware of that not all transformers are copper, some being aluminum. I am also thinking that even if a I sell just a few magentrons on ebay I may break even just from that and the rest being profit.

Just looking to ping some some new blood.

    This space for rent.

I do a lot of microwaves. I take into consideration a $5 avg scrap return on small countertop models and 10 on large undercabinet ones. This is from what i get at my yards. Some people get much better prices and that value could be 50% more. Parts sell better on the undercabinets. Be prepared to sit on some awhile though depending on the age/model.

The transformers are almost always aluminum btw.

Can you scrap them in California? I would think that California would think that they are Hazardous waste...

CA is only concerned with the PCB and DEHP containing capacitors just like with other appliances. Those capacitors are considered hazardhous waste.

I would pay a dollar a microwave in a heartbeat . I completely strip them down and break everything down . When the transformers a copper /aluminum combo I cut the copper part out and sell the rest as motor/transformer . I also sell the glass turntables and handles from under the cabinet microwaves on ebay

The keyword to me, low grade. It was not something I looked for and never got very many (I got two of them before an they both worked.)
