    Looking to network

Here is something for folks to think about who live in the same general area. Networking. I live in the DFW area (a huge metroplex area), and occasionally get calls to pick up an appliance in Dallas, north Ft Worth and other areas, whereas I live close to an hour south of Fort Worth. Needless to say I would spend more in fuel to get the item than I would get scrapping it. When they call, I say that it is too far for me to go, but they can find someone easy on craigslist. Then I got to thinking, if I networked with some of the scrappers on SMF, I could give them their number (throw a little business their way), or vice versa, if they get a call from someone in my area and it is too far for them to go, they could throw a little business my way.

That being said, as I stated before, I live south of Ft Worth, and try to mainly work the areas of south Ft Worth and areas south. I am interested in networking with folks in the following areas: North Ft Worth, Mid Cities and Dallas. If you are in these areas and are interested in networking, please send me a PM and we can exchange contact information. Please state the area you are in. Since there may be several folks in one particular area, basically it is first come first serve. Generally this will be the gist of the way it works. If I get a call that is too far out of my area for me to go, I will give the contact information of the closest person to that particular pickup point, and if some in my network gets a call for a pickup south of Ft Worth and it is too far for you to go, you give them my contact info.

Anyone in my area interested in networking?????

People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

I thought about that, but what I would like to do is have a number I can refer the caller to. I have had a lady from Plano (about 100 miles one way) call and ask me to pick up a fridge, but I would burn much more in fuel that what I would get out of it. If I had a number of someone near there I could give it to her and she can reach someone who is more local to her. It is a win-win situation. A win for the caller and a win for the person who gets the call. If no one in the area is up for the idea, then it is not a big deal, I will just continue to let the caller know that they can find someone local in either the labor and moving section or the appliances section of craigslist and some random person will get the call. There is really no down side, but if there are no DFW scrappers who want to try it out, then like I said, some random scrapper will get the call. Most calls I get are from folks who want items picked up as soon as possible, and who knows when someone local to the DFW area might eventually see the post in the scrap metal spots sub-forum.

You do realize I am in the Dallas/Fort Worth, TX metroplex area? I see you are in the Tennessee area, and I have yet to get any calls out of state. Good luck in getting a Memphis area network set up.

You read my mind dude. This is the post I've been trying to get through on the Classifieds forum for over a month now, with no avail. Didn't think to post it here though...

    Hey guys!

Looking to reach out to my fellow scrappers in the area to challenge you all to an antique pistol dual, because I am the one who knocks...j/k

But no, I'm looking to reach out to possibly throw some work your way. As with most of us, I have my ads thrown up everywhere I can toss them, and frequently get people in the farther reaches of the areas I'm advertising in contacting me to pick up a fridge that's 100 miles away or some such. So far I've simply, politely explained that the gas costs prohibit such drives for such small loads and they're always understanding thus far. But I'd like to be able to tell them that while I may not be able to do it, I know someone in their area who may. Call it good customer service.

In return, I only ask for the same thing when those opportunities come up. If someone has something in my neck of the woods that's not feasible for you to pick up, throw it my way. If you need help for a larger job, keep me in mind.

This does have the potential to back-fire, and I could end up with some of you poaching my clients or territory. So I will be somewhat discriminating in who I decide to enter into these arrangements with, as I would expect you to be.

But if you're honest and non-douchebag, and see the potential value in what I propose, hit me up.

And yes, I know I have almost no posts. That's because I generally just read, and posting on my phone is a real PITA.
I'm in the Hunt County area. Occasionally I get some calls from out your way. I'll drop you a pm with my info and get yours.
