Explain the refrigerator issue to me

Yard #1 -won't take full fridges unless they are tagged but will buy the compressors. So why can't they take the full fridge then?

Yard #2 - can now take the boxes but not the compressors. Well, isn't there still copper tubing in the boxes that can contain traces of freon?

Yard # 3 - main yard to yard number 2 will not take full fridges BUT I saw 2 dropped in the lot when I took my load in today. I said to the guy ''I thought you didn't take fridges?'' got some weird blah blah blah answer. They also had a full gaylord of cut open compressors soooo....

now, If yard # 1, 2 and 3 sell to the same buyers (I asked) why are the rules so different?

If yard #2 is the offshoot of yard number 3 shouldn't the rules be the exact same?

Have any of the three messed up in the past? Might have some bearing on it.

Then again I've learned yard's are like women...Both are confusing and trying to understand them is bound to lead to a very large bar tab or therapy bill.

They cant take the fridge with Freon inside because they will be responsible for explaining what happened to the freon. If they buy the compressors, they have already been drained, and they don't have to worry about the Freon. The rules are different because each yard can make any rules they want as long as they are not breaking the law. Freon is a gas, so there would not be any traces left inside. The Freon being inside is not the issue, it is more about where it went and was it recovered properly.

The yards just don't to deal with all the new laws and regulations pertaining to the recovery of the freeon, the yard that does not take the compressors, most like does not want to deal with the oil mess that comes with stocking up and selling the sealed units (commpressors) they can be a nite mare.

    Heh

@ 1956 and Auburn, it just seems to me that buying the compressors would still = having to explain what happened to the freon since it was part of the whole fridge to begin with but, I guess not.

    Thanks for the replies!

    The compressor is worth 1$
Cut it open and remove the copper and now you have 90 cents of steel and $6 worth of Copper
And no iffy questions to answer.......

I totally read that as "Cut open the COMPUTER" an was trying to figure out where the 6 bucks in copper came from!

Curse my fast reading skills! Tho it does make for some great laughs on my end.

I still like my reasoning better. Auburn an 56 did to, but they had to be all smart an give you the right answer.

Remember they are attempting to comply with laws written by politicians who have no idea what they are doing. The politicians only motivation is to get re-elected so when they write a law it often makes little sense. They want to appear like they are helping the environment, stop theft etc.

So I suspect that whole they can't accept them but when broken down they are legal to accept. I know in some locations there are restrictions on copper and what form it comes in with or with out documentations. Mike

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked
