Recently went to my
core buyer.. Usually when I take off Aluminum Based Car Parts (PCM, Roof Racks, Evap Canisters etc) he has always paid sheet price. Apparently, his upstream buyer has now strapped him with a 3% garbage rate- meaning if it has more than 3% of steel, boards inside the PCM, etc. on it- it is now graded at "Dirty Aluminum" which pays .20/lb vs .45 on Sheet. Luckily, I only had 39 lbs off the last car.. but I spent a few moments discussing with him what he needed in order to get some of that stuff back to sheet! .20 is some bull-honky.
I don't blame my core buyer- he gets hamstrung by his upstream buyer- which happens to be THE largest yard/racquet in a 3 county area.. They LOVE to pull the "Oh you just brought in 1000 lbs of what was "X" last week.. well our NEW rules THIS week are it isn't acceptable as "X" and we'll just have to pay you "Y" instead" I refuse to take anything to this yard because of these games.. but they seem to have their hand in just about everything around.. they are hard to avoid!
