    I got a e-waste lead but I can't do it

I got a lead on a large company in my area that will have 2 full pallets of computer and CRT monitor to dispose of. They usually ship them to a place in Tampa and the place charges them for CRT monitors. They are looking for a local place that will pick them up so they do not pay the shipping charge. 1 problem. They want to use a "certified" recycler and also want a certificate that the hard drive data has been scrubbed. Anyone in NC certified? Maybe we can work out a finder fee of some sort.

99% of the time, the person asking if you are "certified" has no idea what they are actually asking you. People ask me all the time if I am "EPA certified", and I have to break it to them that this does not exist. Do your homework and educate the people who ask you these questions, do not let it frustrate you. I explain that R2 is not practical for a small business, and costs thousands of dollars per year to maintain. If you follow the standards of R2 like selling only to R2 downstreams, tell them that. Most of the time people are just trying to make sure they are giving this stuff to someone who they can trust.

In Michigan we have to register every year with the state and report how much weight we recycled the previous year. If you have a similar program through your state, this should be good enough for most companies you work with.

it is my understanding (I may be wrong) that R2 means the material has to be destroyed and not re-used........I think I read that somewhere please correct me if I'm wrong!!

Agreed there is a "Scrap Dealers License" here in Tennessee.........Do you know how to acquire it........Not be convicted of a scrap metal theft (you could be a serial killer just not steal scrap) in the past five years and pay $175.......There are no tests or other stipulations........I had one before and thought it was a joke so I allowed it to expire and not renew........Sometimes being certified or licensed does not mean that that person or individual has any intentions of doing the "right thing"...........Oh well

Actually Mike, R2 is about re-using and refurbishing as much as possible, and recycling as a last resort.

And 175.00 is a good deal, I have to pay the state 2000.00 every year for my registration.

The $175 does not provide anything really that I need so I decided it was not really worth it (WOW $2000).........SCRAP laws around here are minimal at best

R-2 also requires that you are the end user of all materials before it's sent off to a refinery, If memory servers me right.

That's what I read also and I took that to mean that the material could not be re-sold
