How Often Do You Go To The Yard?

After a long look at the way I've been doing things, I decided I've been going to the yard too often with small loads. Mainly because it's closeby and my truck needs fuel.

I've decided to focus on pickup, finds and shop rounds throughout the week.

Thursday will be for breaking down and organizing. Friday will be the day to cash in. Saturday too, if I've got enough stuff.

I try for once a week, but doesn't always happen that way. And it's not because I have a lack of metals to sell, just don't have the time.

Dude if you've got anything worthwhile to contribute to this thread then throw it out there.

Unless you started your scrapping career with a magical truck that filled its own tank, you should appreciate what I'm saying.

Bust my balls all you want. They're texas sized.

It's not how often, but when. I keep an eye on the local prices and the LME (London Metal Exchange). Be aware of LME tending upward and local prices, which reflect local conditions - for instance, we have "summer pricing" and "winter pricing". The kicker is that I have an area of several acres to store stuff. Right now, I haven't hauled anything in since last November but will be starting again in March with the change in pricing. With that being said, I also haul a load periodically if I need the room or some "cash flow".

I generally say not to try to "time the market" - by which I mean trying to sell at the "top". But you can still watch trends and avoid selling while the markets tanking.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
