    New Guy: Lasted Two Days

I had an electrician in the shop recently and he heard I was looking for helpers.
He said his son painted in the summer but was out of work due to the weather.
I spoke with his son, and then hired him on at $9.00 to start. (30 Hours per week)
He wasn't very personable, but he did his work.
Today, he called me and said that since he got "money from the government anyway", I had to either pay him $14.00 per hour or pay him under the table.
I said that raises were certainly part of the plan, but not after 2 days!
Then, I nicely told him not to let the door hit him on the way out.

I think I am going to work on creating some zombies to work in the shop.

I would tell his father what he said to you. Maybe his father will have a talk with him before he puts his name on the line to get a job for a brat like that.
Currently looking for a job in or related to scrap/recycling. Relocation is possible for the right offer.

I have found a way that works for me with hiring new employes, 1st, they never miss a day, 2nd they don't complain, third no employe theft, 4th i get a tax credit of $2500.00 for each employee. i also start them at minimum wage and they are happy and great full for the opportunity, the answer Ditmass charities, they are the people that run the federal prison halfway house in my area, there are all kinds of these Charities all across the country that house people being released from prison,i have a few guys working for me that have stayed on for a few years after they got done with there probation, and i don't keep the new guys at minimum wage long, every one deserves a second chance.

I just contacted the local veterans organization, hoping a vet might need some work. Thanks for the halfway house idea. I am sure there are some folks that want to work. ...Somewhere. I would be pleased to give raises, although the last two people I gave $1.00 an hour raises... Started forgetting where they worked!!

$20/hr? For a 40hr week? Where are you? Wouldn't have to worry about me missing any work.

im here in iowa and I pay that of course for good workers but I have very little overhead costs here and will be slightly higher here soon when I expand which has been a long time coming. I run a very efficient operation and make the money that's there and places that's not like auctions online. I run 24/7 except a few holidays and my employees make that possible which now my friends and family do when like now its tight finding people and I pass that on to the people working hard for me. there are at times when I have people tearing down laptops for example I may only be make $7-8hr minus after overhead so under the mwage but that's the point I am still making money when I am sleeping or going to a movie and such so greed is not a big factor for me

maybe its just this area sure we have a lot of crap jobs because its a college town but most our real jobs here pay at least $17hr to start but most make $22-27hr for trained workers and special skills jobs get at least $35hr and most do on the job training as well. I even work a crap job still at mcdonalds part time cause its fun and free food and its a break from scrapping that I can still make money from to put towards expanding because I hate renting since its cheaper here to own than rent.
i make after everything about $52hr and really that's low and i do at least 60hrs a week. i am not complaining i work hard and bleed for that money but i complain because its just the lowest tip of that ice burg there is so much waste out there i dream of getting as with this business i have learned how much a.k.a. trash is worth. the big boys have all gotten in early and i have in the middle and trying to at least put a foot hold down so i do not have to continue to just squeak around. any who i rant but i hope everyone has a good xmas

$12,480 a month and you work at McDonalds. That seems legit.

He said it was for the free food.

When I worked for Borders Books & Music, all of my evening booksellers worked there for the benefits. Pay sucked, but they liked the benefits(Discounts on books of course, plus you could use the store inventory as your own personal library if it wasn't a new release.) These folks all had Master Degrees, an Doctorates. Yet they worked for 7.50 an hour 3 days a week, on top of their regular jobs, didn't do it for the money but because they loved working in a book store, an the benefits that came with it.

Do I equate McDonalds to a bookstore far as fun? No. But guess what it's not up to me to decide for others. Seems Travis enjoys his part time job, an still continues to scrap. Why ya'll are focusing on the part time gig when he explained quite well how he makes the money he does.

Not defending anyone here, but...if someone enjoys working a part time gig while doing a full time...who am I or any of you to judge?

Personally I'm impressed!!!............I can hardly keep up with what I do and just feel like taking a nap instead of going to work...........I would have to say if I made 12,000 a month I would not be eating at Mcdonalds

One of my businesses (self employment has many facets for me) is vehicle recovery. I am insured and equipped to get people out of ditches, do jump starts, etc... pretty much how that goes. I have snow chains, "ice chains" called kold kutters and a receiver mount 12k winch. Winter is and always has been slow for me even in E Waste, it's very hard for my refurbishing efforts to "beat" the holiday pricing on artificially trumped up machines...look close at the specs and often you pay double you would otherwise for the same machine...yea it might be an i7 or an i5 but then wait a minute its a dual core i7 not a quad...hmmm.

Anyways, expect that from today's generation. They do not know hardships, they are 90s kids, things were good, buy buy buy, house, cabin, two cars a truck, a boat a four wheeler and ALL on credit, why not? They grew up surrounded by stuff with no actual idea of the debt it carries. And that's the issue kids my age never learned what debt was and how it carried. Just the same as my parents never learning that and their parents not needing to know because they pro generated the scheme of mortgages, credit cards and store cards... Three full generations later I carry the debt of my previous generations, thanks for that. I always wanted to work 75 hours a week so I could pay my rent(s), buy groceries and hope I can pay my gas card down....I have no credit cards, no car loans no toys with loans on them, I do not own a house I do not go crazy on black friday...I struggle, we all struggle or we wouldn't be trying to collaborate and make this business of scrapping and recycling work now would we?

Take it in stride, there are like minded people out there, chances are you have to find them, they will not come to you because most of us do not trust the employer anymore, true story, the best employees have to be found, they do not come to you.
