As a New Yorker, for better or worse, this was interesting as I had heard about the law but was not aware of the details. I have been collecting Ewaste for over a year now and was planning to build an attractive collection bin similar to the clothing bins one sees for electronics. It looks like I would be wise to invest in the $250 dollar fee to do this, though as many of you do, this is a part time sideline for me. Any thoughts on collecting electronics this way without the "permit"? Our local solid waste takes the elctronics whole, I would be breaking them down and selling components.

Not sure where in Upstate NY you are but I've been getting electronics from folks through Facebook groups. I like the drop off idea but you might need an additional permit or two to construct and place the bin.

Am I reading this right..... NY doesn't accept Escrap from outside states?
Wonder if I can ship it in?
This would put a bullet into my scrapping eWaste if not....

No we do, the bill that was passed made it illegal to throw out electronics in the garbage.

Awesome, been reading up on importing scrap into NY. Doesn't seem to be any issue at all, as long as it is inspected before it leaves here, upon arrival and has a destination. Wasent so sure about Escrap though, it's the time of the year when everyone is throwing out old CPUs there is probably about a container of tvs DVD players and CPUs at the dump, I grabbed 4 today and got goodies out of all 4, back again tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply, still won't let me PM. Says I'm not allowed yet.

That's fine, i'm sure you're not too far away from the requirement for it. Anyhow, I feel it's important to have external relations with other scrappers(sounds like Bermuda's a honey hole in itself).

Are you sure about that. I did some inquiries with people I know in Buffalo and they say its not aloud. Of course they could be wrong. I go to NY 5-6 times a year . Be nice to offset my expenses with bottles.
Never mind. Should have read whole thread first.
