I wouldn't worry about it too much - wife's moms boyfriend trades stocks and said it's normal and I'd lave to agree.
Your basing the state of the real economy on the STOCK MARKET ? . Sry LS couldn't help it.

"anyone who thinks scrappin is easy money ain't doin it right!"
Recession works for me. Metals go up, ewaste pricing goes up, my precious' I refine now increase in value.

My opinion doesn't matter in the grande scheme.
I do not like the outlook; however, I th8nk for the time being it will be ok, in the near future. I don't think any kind of predictions or trends will point one way or another anymore.

I think we are at a point in history where we cannot learn as fast as the information is allowing. I may be getting old but I am def starting to see a huge gap in the generation divide. There is so much more out there than when I was a kid it is fascinating. I cannot imagine being any older and not loosing it. I think I have the luxury of being the lasy mohican age of computerless information.
You literally can buy or find out...anything; quickly and effortlessly. It is sort of scarey having the knowledge of how things were and how they are going to be. It is a sort of purgatory.
I think we are in a huge change; a sort of electrical/automobile age type of change. Let's see where it takes us, if it doesn't kill us all first.
In a few years, I know that we'll be in trouble.
Why? Farmers. The median age of a farmer is 56 years old, and climbing quickly. I don't know if there will be enough of us to feed the world. That's not good.
There's also problems in truck driving? We'll be short on drivers too.
The problem as I see it is work ethic- everyone wants to go to college and work in an office. There aren't enough people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and get enough "real" work done.
Most jobs today seem to involve pushing paper and nothing else.
Sad, if you ask me...
The things I could tell you people that you wouldn't want to hear.
But if you have a interest in what lay ahead you can start with:
The Magna Carta of June 15, 1215
The Charter of the United Nations June 26 1945
I mention those 2 charters as they are very important in having a better understanding of just HOW this world works.
Recessions are going to happen every 10 years or so. There is so much money dumped into 401k's that we have a continual cycle of stocks being inflated and deflated so large traders can take it all.
Always something to worry about.
Glass half full, half empty, an all that.
My views will well differ from most. I like to think on the sunny side of things. Don't get me wrong I'm still attuned to reality, but look where the world has gotten us by focusing on the negatives in EVERYTHING. There will always be someone telling me the country sucks, the world sucks, etc. Thanks!
I prefer being an optimist vs a pessimist. Nobody wants to hear all that though, so I'll let everyone think the worse an I'll keep on keeping on to my own little beat. Save the scary predictions for the next election. Cause sure as the sun will rise they will come as we get closer to 2016.
I can't wait for the next guy in office. He can get blamed for everything that happened before him. It's a wonderful cycle being President. You get yelled at for everything the guy before you did, an nobody gives you a pat on the back till 50 years after your dead. Now that's a job I want!
You know why good news doesn't make the News shows or Papers? Cause being negative an finding fault in everything that goes on in the world sells way better then sex, and Violence, or even rainbows an sunshine an kittens!
What a wonderful world it is indeed.
Back to watching for the sky to fall, plagues to drop, and all that fun stuff!
Sirscrapalot - Everyone else must be wrong, since they don't think like I do. - I know..crazy..sadly many in the world think this way.
I believe a big recession will happen soon. Sorry for the gloom and doom. During the last recession in 2008-09, none of the problems were solve, they were just delayed and increased by the FED keeping interest rates low and by using QE. This time around there is a lot more debt, now at 18 trillion plus social security, medicare, medicaid, liabilities. There is another bubble that is ready to pop and this time we may have a dollar crisis. The fact that the FED is afraid to raise interest rate by .25% tells us a lot that the economy is very fragile, .25% is nothing.
It was the same way right before the 2008-2009 recession, most "experts" thought that the economy was doing great.
I would recommend that people that have savings in dollar convert it to gold or silver, or buy some hard assets with it. If you dont think this recession would happen, it still wouldn't hurt to think of it as a possibility and at least buy some gold/silver especially because it is cheaper now. You may even want to consider converting your dollars into another currency.
Even though I do think there will be a severe recession I do like Sirscrapalot's message about keeping optimistic. You can make lots of money in a recession as long as you understand what is going on. I think that e-scrap will boom again.

Mr.Sam I'm glad you got that out of my post as that's what I was trying to say. One could worry over this an that, an yes I know some things are super serious bizznes. I just choose not to live in fear of such things. Doing so will make my life much shorter on this ball of mud we call home. Stress can cut ones life very short. I don't want to be one of those numbers.
I'm not so naive as to believe I can wish things perfect. I'm a realist like a lot of you, but I can't let that get me down or dampen my beat. Life is to short to worry about the things I can't change. I can do my part, invest in the economy an continue to buy an sell an live my life..or I can be angry, fearful an sad for the future. I do what I can with a smile on my face, a whistle on my lips an a joke for any who care to listen. Cliche I'm sure, but whatever..thats how I choose to live my life.
To the original question...I have no idea, an I'll be honest..I don't care. It's going to do what it's going to do, an no amount of *****ing, worrying or anything else will change that. So I will continue to do what I do, adjust as I need to, save away for when that fateful day comes, an continue to smile in the face of politicians who get off on scaring the populace. I may take some heat for my "I don't care" comment, an that's fine. I actually do care, but not enough to worry over it every day an night. So therefore..I don't care. lol. That made sense in my head...so be gentle with the flame throwers.
I'm not saying any of you fine folks worrying over it are wrong. It's just my way of dealing with it. I got enough stress in my day to day life, I don't need to compound it by over worrying about what the future may bring. I already have sleep issues, I started worrying myself over this kind of stuff, I'd never get any. Ha ha!
Anyhow...think positive, after all, it won't hurt you. Positive thinking does not = Naive.
Sirscrapalot - Piss the world off, an smile in the face of adversity. - Not me, but man I should take credit for it.

I have not seen it change at least on the ground were people live in the real world in the last 15yrs so no im not worried I mean gas has to get to at least $7gal before its to costly to drive scrap hunting but of course ewaste is my primary and have put a lot of money away and make even more each day so when I start to see profits drop vs. rise then I will. when prices plunged and people went crazy leaving me money they would normally take curbo is set to triple my income this year if prices keep at this level
It is now a global economy. So many variables are not under our control.
China or Europe could trigger a massive world rescission.
I'm not terribly concerned about an economic collapse. It's like nuclear war .... nobody is going to start tossing bombs around because the consequences are too terrible to contemplate. The big boys know that if that happens it's game over for their political career and their POWER.
Same / same for the big dawgs if the global economy is allowed to collapse. They will likely do everything in their power to avoid something like that.
That said: We officially went into economic recession over the winter of 2007-2008. As nearly as i can tell, conditions on the ground haven't changed much since then. Across the board ... the standard of living continues to drop.
We may be well into the deflationary phase of the recession now but they won't announce that till all of the government figures have come in.
Sir... I do not get depressed over the direction I think the world is headed. I am alive and I am seeing very interesting crap. Whether this experience is one and done or I get to understand eternity, I am having a great time.
I personally think we are going to see very dire times. I think that we will experience worse than 1930's depression. I may be wrong, but it would seem to me that mathematics is on my side. I personally think those who frequent this board are renaissance men (women) and think outside the box. I also think those here have skills and knowledge that those at a desk on a phone don't have and will probably will wish they did. I see many blisters in their future. I also see the people here as having a one on one connection to people instead of cell phones and video games. I think that will help in situations where social skills and negotiation familiarity will be of importance.
Someone once said they would rather be governed by the first 200 names in the phone book than the politicians we are being "lead" by now (for you younger people, a phone book was a book distributed by the phone company and listed the numbers they had. The names were listed in alphabetical order). I for one would rather have a garage mechanic orchestrating the monetary policy rather than the bunch of crooks at the Fed.
I guess we will see where this world will take us. Good luck.
I don't often disagree with you but I do on this one. Negativity and dissing of our country is a relatively resent thing by the real citizens of America. We have the First President who's first task as President was an apology tour. and who declared America as just another also ran no better then his home country as he bowed to the royals of Arabia. I could go on and on but I won't, just suffice it to say we are a different America then we were 50 years ago. mcw
