    Noobs, lurkers : Hot tip

Lurkers are allowed here to decide if the forum can help them in any way and then are expected to become members and support a forum that will support them. I am personally getting very sick of giving out info to those who don't give it any value. I know others here are too.

I'm also sick of people who watch one or two Byoob tube vids and decide they are going to get rich refining PMs

THIS IS NOT A REFINING FORUM.

UNLESS YOU HAVE STEADY ACCESS TO LBS OF FINGERS PER WEEK (fINGERS NOT BOARDS) YOUR pi**ing in the wind and WASTING YOUR TIME AND OURS.

Show some respect to the forum and it's payed members we are 5% of the daily readers and I for one am tired of giving FREE advice to Takers.

It's flat-out stated in the forum rules that we don't get into refining. Not only is it not profitable in a lot of cases, but if done incorrectly, you could seriously injure or kill someone...

Don't feel bad Admiral get it when you can, you are a contributing member. It took me years before I bought the membership. I did this to help support the forum. The membership area has some info, but way more in the general area for free! So when I could come up with some extra cash I bought the membership. I feel if a CRT question is asked in the section "Scrap Metal Questions and Answers" it is not that big of deal, person is new and has questions. CRT's are an easy find for a Newbie (hopefully after they learn some info here, they will better process them!) Smash and grab is easy, reading and research is not for the new scrapper so I feel we should help educate them...

This post was meant for lurker/takers not valued friends that pay their dues by contributing info or $ to this forum.

I realize some non members are SS (survival scrappers) and can not sacrifice $ meant for survival out of their or their family's food and subsistence. I understand that and, am glad to help in any way I can.

This post is aimed at those takers who can afford to contribute $ or info but don't (you know who you are) even make a conscious effort. mcw

I also did not purchase my membership right away but due to all the info as well as connections I received from the forum as soon as some extra cash became available I paid my dues

It took me a year to scrape up an extra $35 so I understand certain situations. However once I learned enough from this Forum and its contributors to be able to buy a membership. like you and others I did. I fully understand some can't.

This is purely for those who can but don't.

I totally get that olddude, thank you. I was also trying to make the point that I plan to do it, and like most who have or plan to, did not immediately start asking questions that are already answered here. I was a learning lurker for about a year before I finally signed up because I had questions that I couldn't find an answer to, and then only asked for guidance and direction through the forum. Which was a walk in the park because of you and many others here.

I keep planning and planning but EVERY stinkin' time I get a paycheck, I swear it comes with a curse!
A perfect example: My extremely stingy but filthy rich father sends me a check for 5K. Unbelievable!
Two days later, my mother has to have emergency gall bladder surgery. Medicare and the 5k barely made a dent and now I'm scrapping harder than ever before. (she's worth it)
So I guess I'm a survival scrapper...that has NEVER asked a stupid question. (yet)

Actually (and you can log out to check this), non-members (guests) see advertisements that logged in members do not see, so they're generating revenue for the site just by lurking. And those of us who post provide content for the guests to read. It's probably counter productive to alienate them.

(Myself, I haven't posted much lately because my scrapping activity has been minimal since prices went down the tubes, but I still enjoy dropping by and seeing what everybody else is up to...)

I'm in the same boat you are ScrapperT, thanks to medical issues I spend more time at doctor's offices and hospitals than I do scrapping. Still scrap as much as and whenever I can though.

I too will pay my dues as soon as I'm able too. I really do want to see the scrap room, heard somethig about cigars and Maker's Mark in there!

    Noobs, lurkers : Hot tip

Yes, agreed with all of you. It took a little time for my own payment too, always seemed like some other bill was more important, but from the first read I did, I knew I should pay my dues. After I paid, I think I've been in the scrap room about half a dozen times, spend way too much time with trying to gather and sort and send. But I must say, it's just fitting to pay and support the forum that can bring so much help to the individual, thought I knew a lot before I found this place, not cocky about but just knowing and quiet. It's the quiet one you need to worry about. But after reading for just about an hour, I knew I still had a lot more to learn, and I learn something new just about every time I log in. I am greatly appreciative to the teachers out there.

I've always been real curious to see what all you members say about us "noobs and lurkers" in the scrap room LOL! I hope I don't join and find a wall of flame on the other side!

On the other hand, there's people like me. I paid for a membership almost as soon as I got an account because I saw the value. However in the past 6 months, I haven't had the time to post because I got a very busy doing things other than scrapping.

When I first joined, one of my first questions was about the value of joining. I was told straight out to hold off joining for a bit until I was sure this place was what I was looking for. Well, about a year later I sent my payment in and I would like to say that it paid for itself already but that is not really accurate. The truth is, that year I spent reading actually pre-paid for the membership in the form of new knowledge, so my payment simply helped to even it all out...

Very well said. Thanks again for all your contributions.

If I'm not mistaken I joined the Scrap Room within a couple of hours of joining the forum since I felt the value of my membership was more than compensated in the great information the forum provides.

Thanks again to all the great members who freely contribute their time and knowledge to the forum.

We were all noobs and lurkers at one time but I encourage them to do 4 things.
    1. Read the forum rules
    2. Read the FAQ's
After you have finished doing #1 and #2, do #3
    3. Introduce yourself
    4. Get familiar with the layout of the forum.
When I find a new forum the layout can be very confusing. It might take me several days or weeks to become familiar with it.
The one thing that is common in every forum I've been a member of is they want you to do #1, #2 and #3.
And of course I have a visual aid.
