One thing a scrapper can do to get better pricing is find a fellow scrapper they trust, who does higher volume and gets better
prices. The scrapper will see if they'll let them put their stuff in their load. Weigh it first, of course. Then they'll get their price instead of the lower price. They'll have to wait until they haul in but it might make a big difference.

I ran with a bigger scrap hauler for a while. (he does two or three semi loads a day) i Ran everything under his name. All that to the yard on my trailer. He kept $10 a ton on top of whatever I brought in and I got paid $50pt more than anybody else. Worked out great till another Scrap Guy found out and pissed in my cornflakes. Yard wouldn't take my loads as his and offered me half what I was getting. Long story short... I no longer go to that yard if I can help it. I still do once in a while as their the closest large yard to me and sometimes there prices are just too good to turn down. (Alter metal). Funny thing is the guy who complained to the salvage yard is a big hauler as well I offered to do the same thing with him and he didn't feel like it lol.

I'm going the opposite route, thinking of becoming a middleman. I live in the projects, and I would pay my neighbors (1/2 what I would get at the scrap yard)
for aluminum cans, copper wires, car batteries, etc.. and adding that volume to my twice weekly scrap yard runs.

I am absolutely interested in the Co-op idea. I think if everyone keeps records of their material weights, and has a pre set arrangement, than everything is what it should be. I would be more quarterly, unless my volume doubles, which I believe will happen since I have joined this Forum. This place is a vital tool for those who persevere the challenges and keep on pushing. We can either help eachother, and become the Industry standard, or choose to swim directly by the drowning pool, and choose to avoid the possibilities involved with strength in numbers. I am available to Co-op, I am looking for Employment right now in this field, and I want all of you who are good people to have great success. Thanks for having me here.

I'd be in for this as I was when I first came to this board. While I'm not paying for storage currently, all I have to do is say the word and I'll have space set up for storage/processing(although I'd still have to pay for it). I think we've come to that point in our existance as scrappers to bond together in Co-Op to survive.
