    oops !

I have never dealt with computer salvage on a huge basis before. I have purchased a couple of lots of school computers before but not the whole gambit of school surplus.

first, when shown a Representative we were shown one room , about 50 x 20 and were told this school was representative of the other twelve. so we took the 26 foot box truck up and figgured we would get two schools in one load. what he forgot to do was show me the other two rooms at the representitive school about the same size, we were only able to get about 1/3 of the equipment in school 1.

Great, however this raises the estimated 6 truck loads to 18 truckloads ("think were gonna need a bigger boat") and presents an imitate storage problem.

Secondly the buy is typical of school electronics most of it in working condition but out dated. Temporary 10x 20 garages can be the answer to the storage problem.

    The Questions are as follows:

1 Is sorting and having a truck load sale a flea market a viable option.

there will be several pallets of xp and m 2000 working Dell desk tops.

boxes and boxes of speaker sets

Boxes of transformer type power supplies.

every kind of connecting wires you can imagine.

help ! this is arelitively new area for me I'm a noob all over again !

I have bought massive amounts of this surplus before...........Most of it will not be worth your time trying to re-sell.......I will tell you something that is kinda cool and if in good condition is re-sellable.........Portable Record Players like used in school libraries...........The overheads have value but trying to sell them on ebay is a wash due to shipping cost..........I wish you luck......Also look for any type of hearing aid testing equipment there are several large names in this field "BELTONE" being the biggest......This stuff can command above scrap value.......I could go on but if you have questions about a specific item I may be able to help so my door is always open as always

It's not likely that you would have much luck on the resell. That leaves a couple of options:

1: Sort it and parallelize whole units just as it's coming off the truck. ie: Whole desktops go into one Gaylord, printers go in another, wire goes in another, laptops another etc.

Basically, wholesale it out to a buyer.

2: ( more labor) You could set up some kind of dis-assembly line and break down each unit as it comes off the truck. Maybe start with the towers because they're the easiest to do ? Once you get the knack of that, try something a little harder to break down ?

Just a suggestion. It's all situational though.

Chances are that the e-waste has been piling up inside the school system for years. Is there an urgent need to flush it out all at once ?

I've found that if you take a monumental task and break it down into smaller bite sized goals it's easier to manage.

    Later edited to add:

There might be another storage option. There's a place in the city where we used to rent worn out tractor trailer box trailers. They were good weathertight storage in a construction site. We rented them for a month or two and had them hauled back when they weren't needed anymore.

Some scrap metals dealers buy them outright for a couple of grand each. Do you have any lines on these -or- maybe old shipping containers ?

    ~Just throwing ideas out there.~
