I've held a couple smaller events. All great advice you have gotten so far. One thing I would suggest if you don't already have it in place is the ability to accept credit cards for the tv payments. There's loads of options as far as providers. I don't know your situation but for me, square was the best option. I only run about 5 or 10 cards a month tops. They take 2.75% of each swipe, but there's zero monthly fee. Others take a smaller percent but there's a monthly charge along with it. More for high volume people. Find the best option for your situation, but if you consider setting up a square acct, pm me first for my promo code to sign up with. We both get 1000 dollars or 6 months, whichever comes first, fee free. I did this with another member a while back.

Should you also note on your advertisement that you would take other metal items? I like if it plugs in, runs on batteries or made of metal we can recycle it!

If anyone can do it...The Dude can. Cause the Dude abides.

Other folks offered suggestions an questions. Good stuff to.

On Hobo's idea of the seeds...if you do go that route, you can pick up a box of various seed packets from somewhere like Sams Club, Costco, BJ's, etc. in large amounts for not very much money.

Sometimes getting your name out there is worth the lost income. If your doing this every week an not making money...then thats a problem. One must look at the bigger picture an make sure things line up with their intended goals. As I like to say...YMMV. This model/plan may work for Dude, but not for others. Risk vs reward...sometimes you gotta roll the dice...crap out, roll again an hit the jackpot.

I wish you much luck. An I leave you with one question...WHERE THE BLOODY HELL IS THE GOAT?! Goats bring people. People = items. Items = Money. So therefore...Goats = Profit.

Once again...much luck to ya Dude an let us know how it turns out for you.

Sirscrapalot - No quotes. Will resume when I return from invading Florida.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, ideas, and general support as well. I may have made the exact contact I need. While shopping at a local home improvement store, I stumbled on a couple of nice ladies who were selling subscriptions to the local paper. After chatting, and yes signing up for 10 weeks for $2 (cant beat that right?) come to find out the one who was being trained knows the CEO of our local shelter/food bank. If this wasn't a blessing in disguise I don't know what is, considering this was the exact organization I was trying to work with : ). I've also been donating a portion of my ebay sales to The Gary Senise Foundation, which helps veterans with housing, and any/all other services they might need. So far only about $50-75 raised for that foundation, but it's a start and I plan on ramping up my online sales by 10fold this year. Great things to come and great advise from all of you. I will continue to update this thread with information, as it becomes available, for anyone who would like to know. Bless all of you and I hope that each and everyone of you has the best year of your lives! You can if you choose to

I've done collection events. Now, things are way different out here than in Ohio for sure. But, the way I ran them was I didn't expect to make money on the drives. I wanted to break even, and I did, and usually made a few dollars. But, the way I earned profit was talking with the people in the towns I was doing them in. Consumer drives didn't make much, but I did land 4 school contracts, two municipal ones, and a hospital through doing collection events. Having the drives makes you look more like a member of the community, and establishes you as being trustworthy. If I have to take some inkjet printers to land a contract from a school, I'm pretty happy

Matador: That's essentially how I want to work it. This first Recycling drive, If I don't make a dime/or even lose money, I know that the networking I do for it, during it, and after it, will pay off HUGE dividends down the road. God graced me with the ability to relate to anyone, which in turn makes me on hell of a salesmen That's now to say I don't do what's best for the customer EVERYTIME, it just means that I can sell ice to an Eskimo and it will make sense to him/her while still maintaining a level of professionalism and class that some sales people lack. My goal is to make money of course, and I have ever intention on doing so, regardless of others previous results and opinions. THAT DOES NOT MEAN I DO NOT RESPECT AND APPRECIATE EVERYONE ON THIS FORUM, AND THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE TAKEN THE TIME OUT TO GIVE ME ADVISE/THOUGHTS/IDEAS/BROCHURES/ETC. It just means that we view things differently and have different ideas or results. Nobody in this world is better then anyone else, Period. Now there are usually/always exceptions to the rule mind you, but all in all I firmly believe that. Your success can be replicated/duplicated and done better, and there is nothing wrong with that. Competition makes way for innovation and change, which for ANY successful business is key to their survival and success. I don't know if I'll hit my target date of Earth day (April 22nd) but I can assure you one thing. This year will be the best year of my life, to date, and there are only great things to come in the future for me and those of you who are willing to do what it takes to be/become successful.......

Mine went well, had it at the fire station, hot dogs, brats etc. Was a good day, and we ended up with so much material I made six trips to the yard with shred today already lol.
