Working from home. My job can be done 100% remote and I had the option to work from home some even before the corona. So... Overall, I'm considering myself very fortunate to still have a job.

Well ... i don't exactly know as i would call it corona bs. It's getting pretty real. The state of Maine is going into lockdown tomorrow. I doubt they will enforce it, but, we are looking at a penalty of up to 1,000.00$ fine & six months in jail for violating the stay at home order.
If that doesn't " flatten the curve " .... we're likely looking at stronger measures.
At this point i almost wish i were laid off, but my job is considered to be in essential services. The situation is changing day by day though. I do wonder if there will come a point where they shut down my end of the company and re-deploy me to a different job where i would be more useful. Possibly, working in even closer proximity with the public than i am right now.
About all i can do is hold turn and try to keep my sense of humor in a difficult situation.

I thought I would be worse off, but I have actually had a job every day this week... Knock on wood. My wife, on the other hand, works in healthcare with HealthSouth and has been laid off indefinitely.
Hills, forgive me if I have asked and forgot, but where in Maine are you? My wife is from Woodland (actually Baileyville, they changed the name because there was another Woodand in the state and there was only allowed to be one)near Calais, down east by the Canadian border.

It's all good T. I don't want to get too specific but i'm on one of the islands near Bar Harbor. If you thought Bar Harbor ... that would probably be close enough.
We've been sort of an undiscovered secret up until the last few years. We're seeing more tourism now. Ordinarily, that would be a good thing for the local economy but this really isn't the best time. We're not equipped to handle a sudden influx of people fleeing the city to get away from the covid thing. We just don't have the medical resources to provide for their needs should they come down ill and require hospitalization.

since i'm retired I have been more "laid back" waiting for the FU$$ to clear enough so that I can get out a little bit.
MetalPhil, are you a oriental female below the age of 30?
or trying to act like such?

I scrap fulltime so im not layed off..... I just keep getting a pay cut lol

One of the lucky ones to still be working full time. Split my time on site vs. working from home. I will re-iterate what hills said, definitely don't think this is BS. However, not to sound insensitive, I'm okay with thinning the heard a bit, theres too many people in the world anyways.

I don't know about you guys, but i've already made peace with the hard truth that all of the people i know and love are going to die someday. I am going to die someday ... most likely i will be completely forgotten within a few generations. It will be as though i never even existed at all. I'm completely okay with that because that's simply the way of the world.
All of the other bull$hit is just self importance talking. Ohh ... noes ... MY world has been turned upside down ! I am going to die ! What if I lose my loved one ? What's going to happen to MEEEE ? How am I going to carry on without them ?
These are the times that show us for our true colors. What kind of man do you want to be ?

I have found that people who believe this type of view, are proud of their enlightenment in having this point of view. We are talking about God and life centered, and darkness, death and evil centered. They will do there best to bring others over to their way of thinking.

It's terrible to say, but this one seems designed to primarily target those who have lived most of their life.
I worked in a nursing home for six years doing maintenance. At the time .... it cost about 32,000.00$ a year to pay for the care of one resident. As a basis of comparison .... i was supporting a family of four on 26 k. per year back then.
It's probably just coincidence, but if you did want to a design a virus that would pick off the weakest non-producers in society and leave most of the rest ?

Of course I wouldn’t be fine with it, and this will touch every life some way in a negative aspect. You can call it dark, whatever you like. I simply believe this is one of many actions nature will take to relieve what I believe is the biggest problem of our society, and that is over population. Not enlightened or trying to convert people to my point of view. Clearly this is not the forum for that type of discussion so I got off subject and for that I apologize. Call it what you like.

Get out of here with your logic based arguments and your acknowledgement that the universe/nature/evolution is a FAR more powerful force than the 8 billion or so self-aware bipeds wandering around on this rock.
This conversation is supposed to be all about happy feelings and wishing for the best!
Consider yourself chastised!

Out of clutter, find simplicity. --Albert Einstein
"Overpopulation" only makes sense in the context of overconsumption. Otherwise you'd just be saying, "Meh, is too many people I think." But the vast majority of the world doesn't consume massive amounts of resources. It's wealthy countries like the US and European countries and Persian Gulf monarchies with high per capita rates of resource consumption (though China is catching up!). So overconsumption isn't related to overpopulation in practice. So your calls for a "culling" are not just cruel but arbitrarily cruel since they can't have any meaningful effect on overconsumption.
