I have been hit with deductions before also. Best one was a deduction on dirty aluminum. Went right to the buyer and he said he would fix it on the next load.

I have a friend that does a lot of printers. He was hit with a 200 pound deduction. He went back to his shop and placed 200 pounds of ABS on his scale and took a photo. Sent it to the yard and asked if this was how much he had in his load.

There is a fair amount that gets landfilled. Overseas was trying to recover the plastics a few years back, not sure what they are doing now. A lot will depend on the equipment a recycler has. I deal with a company in Connecticut that has the ability to recover down to dust. As technologies improve, more and more of the metals in the fluff are being recovered. This company posted an interesting video last week of bottom ash being processed. This is the non combustible, non ferrous remains from an incinerator.

The fluff market is primarily landfill or incinerator stock though inefficient shredders may sell it for metallic content. Separating post-shredder different plastic grades from heterogenous materials is impractical, bordering on impossible. Shred as a commodity assumes about 70% ferrous recovery if I recall correct but yards with different downstreams have different standards.

I know my experience is not that much, and I also dont deal in dumpsters/container services.... but I would assume the prices is the price and they shouldnt deduct....

I take a ton of **** to the yard in a trailer in shred and they never check nothing or deduct nothing.... what the difference between you putting this stuff in this dumpster and them taking it vs if you just loaded that same stuff up on a few trailer loads and brought it in yourself (in terms of pricing and deductions).

Im sure others will edu-ma-cate me on why places do deductions, but I would think as long as it is mostly metal, they should just give you the shred/regular price.

A lot depends on the yard you are selling to and wether they shred themselves or sell to a shredder. Non shredder yards, I don't think I have ever gotten a deduction, except if I have dropped rims with tires still on them. These feeder yards are able to mix the good loads with the occasional bad loads and not get any great deductions when they bring to a shredder or they have already taking a deduction into account when setting there prices.

I have seen some shady $hit this past year at feeder yards and not just the scrappers, the yards also. Saw one mix in a whole pallet of wet gaylord boxes with their light iron. Another purposely digs into the dirt when loading light iron. Have seen them load more than once and also seen them fill the hole back in.

I have gotten deductions at the shredder yard and questioned them a couple times.
