Job Offer

So I had contacted the local 1800-got junk franchise about getting in with him to get their e-waste. After we got to talking he offered me a job as an operations manager for the local area. I'll still get the e-waste too. Even if I don't take the job I'll still get the e-waste.



Apparently the previous Operations Manager spent more time in line at the scrap yard than trying to get more work.

Have any of you worked for any of the franchises? Pros and Cons?

I know they're pretty pricey when it comes to their pickup fee's but it seems to be a pretty good model for them.

Yeah I'm not buying a franchise I'd be running the show for the franchise owner. As far as working for a few months and quitting I couldn't do that.

As far as the previous Operations Manager he would take the scrap to the yard and not report it to the company, while on company time.

Also like I said the prices are pricey, but you can charge what the market will bear. Especially when you have an established brand, clean trucks, uniformed personnel and a professionally manned call center.

I'm still up in the air about it, I have a pretty good day job already, but this could give me the access to the e-waste to take plaxant to the next level. And a bit of a raise... My wife isn't sure either. A lot to think about and have a frank discussion with my current employer Monday morning.

Be careful of any non-compete clause. I think that's what TheFatMan meant. These companies are serious about them. They could keep you from scrapping ANYTHING while employed and for a certain amount of time afterwards.

I hope you figure out the best thing for you and your family. As far as promoting your business while working for them, that is exactly the kind of thing that can give you a negative reputation. Not to mention get you canned. Practicing good business ethics goes a long way. Remember, this company is a competitor. Working for them and getting them more accounts could potentially take away from your business and slow down growth. As you stated, the regular scrap already goes to the company and he is willing to give you his e-scrap. You are a definite winner this way. This way you can focus energy on growing your business and getting YOUR business accounts and not his. Maybe you could sit down with your wife and make a pros and cons list, this helps a lot of people make some tough choices. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
