Why would you not call back?????

I tend to not rant too much but this has really chapped my hide. I have been noticing it more and more lately and I am not sure if I have bad breath, B.O. or what?

Why is it that when you call a business and want to give THEM money they don't seem to want to return your calls?

Example 1: We need a new truck. I have some large clients who want me to pick up 25,000 pounds of wire a week from them and process it. So I decided to upgrade to a 26' Box truck. I called two banks that I deal with and have good history with. Neither one has returned a call in a week.

Example 2: I called four scrap yards to ask about buying them out of wire. All four have not bothered to return my calls. I even left messages that said I would be happy to buy all their wire cash.

Example 3: Two insurance companies after a week of calling have yet to return my calls.

I swear in front of all you today. Should anyone call me and ask to give me money I WILL CALL YOU BACK!!!!

    /endrant

It happens all the time....We get client calls all the time who say that they are interested in having their items picked up and say that they will call back....Sometimes it is months upon months and we do not hear anything...I tell you what will happen...>You will make the deals with other scrap yards, find a loan through another bank and get insurance somewhere else and then all of a sudden these people you are talking about will call back....Yep, it will drive you nuts but people, in general, seem to not care too much anymore about customer service.

Thats what happens when you are in the computer recycling field. When you don't get a call back thats a nice way of them telling you NO. But..I will call back a few more times over time.

Keep at it. You never know what will come about.

P.s yards like to stay with the same people even if someone else is paying better...reason being they want to work with one company that they know wont change the price wildly, not cheating on weights, holding funds for one reason or another. So getting into a yard and buying there stuff is VERY hard...keep going there and spending your time. Sooner or later they will hear what you have to say and may "try" you out. The first few times will be a test..they may send you a load of wire that has more than what they said (seeing if you will be like there was 100more pounds than you stated) or send you less and see what happens (they should not send THAT much less...only a few pounds so they are sure you will know..but not to "rob" you)

Dee, I am feeling much better now thank you. I had three calls just after I finished this from three different vendors who want to increase their orders. They should keep my guys and my machines more busy then they have been in a long time.

I recently started to look at buying from the yards. Typically I don't as I get a lot of business from some large scrappers. However, I have recently bought another machine and needed to fill the time on it. I will keep at it and I am sure that sooner or later I will crack the egg.

They buy processed copper wire. However, these vendors want me to increase my order. Sorry it was not clear. They want me to take more wire off their hands for cash. Seems I can never get enough good wire.

I spoke to them about a wire buy once that had this and they said they will come to my facility to certify that I am not reselling it to China.

Out of curiosity why would they care so much you are reselling it to China?

Well it has to do with how some material is processed in China and other coutries not as regulated as in the U.S. So many companies are held to only selling to companies that can certify the "down stream" destination of the materials. This is an enviromental driven thing that makes sense to many, including myself and the majority of the members of this forum. The intent is to discourage the burning of the insulation of wire to get to the copper. High Voltage who started this thread is in the business of seperating the insulation from the copper. He then sells the copper to U.S. companies there by keeping the product here in the U.S. Hopefully this also encourages the job market here in the U.S. as well. Mike.

The reason is the people you talked to have no stock in the company. They just work there. They could care less as long as they get their paycheck at the end of the week.

Welcome to my world, I work with the general public at my job and when scrapping, most are good but a select few will drive you to drink. Got a customer hauled 22 tons for a while back, and still has probably another 20 tons or more to go, but nothing doing. After the hefty payout he received thought he would all over this but some people are weird like that. Another odd ball customer I got wouldn't answer his phone for 4 days, when I had money to give him ! Just like that song goes beer is good, god is great and people are crazy

I think there is an interesting aspect when buying from a new customer and I have a theory. I find that the first time they sell me stuff fairly easily, then start wondering what I am up to and if they are losing out on something. So they look around, research for awhile, maybe even try to sort/package/ship stuff on their own. Then they realize that actual work is involved and it takes away time from them doing what they KNOW they can make money on. They then become more comfortable with selling to me as they know that I'm earning it, so they eventually call me back to take their stuff. But aside from that, I agree that God is Great and people are nuts
