    Rear projection televisions

So, I live directly across the road from a local recycling facility. Out in front of the business they have big bins for every type of recyclable material that anyone can utilize. I notice that a lot of rear projection televisions are set out in front of these bins and it got me to thinking. I see those types of tvs on craigslist for free because they are expensive to fix anymore. I know about the fresnell lenses that come out of them and people use them for fun projects, but is there enough metal in them to make it worth taking them apart?

Not a whole lot. You'll get 3 small yokes and some wires and a little bit of steel but alot of trash too.

1 or 2 everytrash day isnt that bad. just dont stack 20 outside you place unless theres a case of beer there too. looking at 2.5 pounds of copper #2 aluminum plus the boards and wires. totally worth it if its across the street.

I found one that the ''workings'' part had already been removed so I didn't have a big shell to load up. The wood box and workings was heavy (for me anyways) and after I got over freaking out about the liquid that came out when I unscrewed the lenses I was fine lol. the frame holding the tubes was cast aluminum and got three copper yokes and bunch of wiring out of the whole thing. Was fun to take apart after the initial ''scare'' and if I ran across any more I'd pick them up for sure as long as they were already dismantled like that again. Those lenses were neat!
