Best Way to buy Aluminum Alloy

    Hi,

I'm new to the industry and the market, I work more on manufacturing and the next stage in the supply chain. I have a large customer that I have a strong relationship with who is giving me an opportunity to bid for a project that requires large quantities of aluminum alloy grade 356. Can anyone give me any advice on what the best route is to source aluminum alloy? Does anyone have any recommendations on specific companies I can talk to? I really appreciate the help, this a great forum!

Depending on what volumes you are looking at, you may want to talk with a metal broker. Are you in Chicago or the surrounding suburbs? There are a few in the area.

I am looking to purchase 500 tons. I am located in Chicago, but am open to sourcing from anywhere in the country that is able to handle this kind of quantity. Can you give me the names or connect me with the metal brokers in the area? I am trying to go as far up the supply chain as I can to get the best price.

The new steel mill at Ft Wayne bought them so they could have an endless supply of recycled steel for their mill, so they have deep pockets backing them up.

    Pricing

Thanks a lot for your help!

Does anyone have any advice or resources of pricing? I know there are quoted prices in the CME for aluminium alloy grade 356. Are there any rules of thumb that I could use in relation to the quoted market prices to come up with a competitive bid price for scrap? Are there any blogs or resources online where I might be able to find information about aluminum alloy scrap pricing?
