There's no way I would work through a broker when I know that
business cards and advertising work so well. And George your right when you say that your man contracted through your brokerage would surly get direct contact with the booking client and get the next job direct.
When I ran my appliance repair, started from home fixing up washers and dryers, after that first sale a mole hill soon grew into a mountain of clientèle, one happy customer soon tells a friend or relative. Next thing you know you have more work than you can handle, yea you could broker out the extra work, but not on my good name and reputation.
Gustavus,
I can definitely understand and respect your opinion, and I even agree with it 100%. The part that I am agreeing with is this.
I get contacted, and I tell Joe Schmoe "hey, I got a client that has 4,000 lbs of ready to go metal and copper, but I am super tied up until the end of the week. Would you like the job" they say yes, and go and do it. Unfortunately, something goes wrong on the job and they break something or something else, etc. Just a number of situations could happen.
Anyways, the client contacts you back and expects you to pay for everything, even though you had nothing to do with it, and the provider doesn't even represent your company.
That can definitely hurt a reputation.
Like you gustavus, I use business cards, word of mouth, and starting in January I will be doing direct marketing pieces through the USPS thanks to a link that PTS provided to me. Also, a lot of my business not only comes from business cards and word of mouth, but happy, satisfied repeat customers, as well as referrals.
Like I said, I agree with you, and your point makes me definitely realize it probably is not the best idea.
Like I also said, it was just a thought and idea.
