"don't sh*t where you eat"... some people are just too dumb to understand that old quote.
2 weeks ago i passed on a steel table because the homeowner put a mattress on it. i didn't want to leave a bed on his lawn or bring an old mattress home.
i drive the same streets every week, the last thing i need is a homeowner upset with me for going through his trash.
edit: just read this and you gave me a great idea. if it isn't too late in the day you could go knock on the door, give him your card and possibly get all his goodies in the future. clean up his yard for him and take the tv with you plus whatever value was left behind. he is sure to call you with all his appliances rather than take the chance of some idiot vandalizing his property for some copper.

only if you run your headlight at the wrong rpms. you have to make sure the rotation matches or it can get a carbon build up fast and the cleansers can only do so much
We're the renegades of Junk!
I get really annoyed by this as well. I used to put TVs out for grabs when I didnt know about E-scrap. I have had a few busted up and left scattered around my yard and had to clean them up. I was livid because those shards of glass are very hard to ensure you get out of the lawn. I have kids that play in my lawn... people dont think about this stuff or care and that is why we get a bad rep.
Now I keep and process them myself and don't have to deal with it anymore. While I would like to say I have never dropped one and made a mess, I cant say that is true. I have occasionally lost my grip and dropped one. The difference is I carry a rake and broom / dustpan in the truck and clean up my mess as best as possible the rare occasions it has happened. Home owners will occasionally help out even if they see what happened, just because they are glad not to do it themselves. It also helps build up your reputation especially if you have a name on your vehicle when doing it.
If you leave the yard looking better than when you stopped you will find it seems to grow more treasures for you at a later date. Also, if there is only a small pile of trash with a few items take it all and call it a cost of business. "cherry picking" as described above while not as bad as making a mess is still reflecting bad on us in my opinion. take one, take all.
I would had gone up to the house to let them know someone made a mess and why. I would take that opportunity to clean it up for them and give them my card so they can call you next time to keep that from happening to them again. You would be A+ on there list and they would tell there friends to.
Its a shame those guys are giving us good guys a bad wrap...
If I ever saw that id just pull up riiight infront of him and sit the nose of my truck inches away, hold the brake and load up the engine. They'd probably **** themselves just at the big black diesel being a foot away from em. Chances are they would know exactly why I would be doin that. Id also make sure that they knew, I know who they are. I would then proceed to put a warning ad on the local classifides warning of a scrapper in a _____ coloured (insert make and model) being totally unethical and disrespectful with his work. Cause chances are hes got an ad on the same site.
Nothing wrong with doing any of those things and I can guarantee, if people knew who he was, it would hurt his pocketbook and make him think twice next time.
If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...
