If you have a business account through a bank many of them offer credit card service for very reasonable fees.
With working with your bank if a problem should arise you can take your paper work with you and walk right in and talk face to face with a representative.

Auction house I do a lot of business with offers that discount so I always take advantage.

This all seems like a huge hassle for a simple refund. With your card service all you do is credit there account the amount of the refund and DONE.

No Checks, no phone calls, no proof needed.

I use PayPal for my online business transactions, but I use Square for the transactions that I am face to face with the person.

That is true, but if you use square, it says it in their help area, that if you do a refund, that your other transactions can be put on hold for a few days.

Maybe I miss interpreted that, but that is how I took it.

Maybe be...cant say yes or no to that, but like I mentioned, I know a few in the past who had it in their policies, and above registers etc.

Laws could have always changed too, so who knows.

Most likely, I will just incorporate the fee into prices, or something.

My guess would be that it depends if you have enough in the acct to cover the refund...if not then new/pending transactions would be applied/held till your Even Steven.

That is true. When they started that it was not post on the road side signs. Someone must have made a fuss because it is post on there signs now!

Makes you mad when you would see a price and pull in only to find the credit price is so much higher then advertised. The old,( Bait and Switch)!

Geo being a biz man you should use a card! My brother-in law is a large paint contractor. He buys all his supplies with an American Express card.
They offer him free miles, him and my sister are able to fly first class back and forth to Greece for free a couple times a year.

Paying with a card also makes bookkeeping a lot easier! Just be sure to pay off what you charge at the end of period and don't hold a balance!

Sorry, my apologies for not being more clearer. Was referring to personal things that I buy. I have a check card, but I rarely use it, except to take cash out to pay bills.

When it comes to business, it is all either cash (receiving), or check, or money order in some cases. Now it will be CC's as well.

I have always accepted CC, but it was always done via Paypal.com. Since I require to be paid at completion of a job, paypal.com is not always useful.

I am sure square, or the other firm I signed up with, will increase business a lot for me in 2012 for sure.

I never have had any other CC other than our check cards. To much hassle and issues for me.

Thanks for this thread, I have been thinking about getting one of these for awhile. Sometimes people have to run to the bank and get money, or they dont pay for everything to get removed because they dont have the money. If I have a credit card reader I feel I can get a lot more business.

I read a personal finance book awhile back and it talked about how in the 1990's (I believe it was the 90's) Grocery stores started to offer store credit cards. They offered them for the convenience and for the extra support to buy goods at their store if the person didnt have the money. But, they also found out that even the people that would pay their monthly balance in full every month on their credit card, these people would buy more groceries with a credit card opposed to paying cash. There is something physiological about counting your cash and then handing it over to someone to pay for something, you are a little more cautious about what you spend with cash.

I dont mean to sound manipulative in wanted a credit card reading for my customers rather, it will be useful for those customers that like to haggle the price down when the price is already at a fair price. Maybe if they have a credit card they wont be too worried about haggling over that $20-$40.
