    new customer:)

local prolific scrapper (3 4 ton loads a week) has agreed to sell me all his electric motors, compressors etc. for prevailing prepaired iron price, I take the copper out and return the hulls to him, aluminium windings will not be included. how does this sound in my situation. ?

clarification ; the loads are not 4 ton of motors, but include 10 to 20 motors per trip.

Depends on a few things...what your local prepared iron price is, what you can sell the #2 copper for, your average copper yield per lb of motor and how fast you can do it.

My main question would be why the heck this other scrapper would do the deal? Sounds like a losing proposition for him.

When you say return the hulls to him, do you mean sell them back to him at the prepared iron price?

!. hes a nice guy and looses nothing by helping out a fellow scrapper.
    2. I give him half profit of all the loads I cant get my self tin iron alu etc.
    3. the copper is free to me or at least at prepaired iron price.
    4. no I give him the hulls back free.
    5. I can do at least 10 compressors a day, and I have 2 boys, if I cn get their butts away from the frickin computer games long enough to do any work.
    6. the state wont give me my dr liscense back as long as Im on these heavy cancer meds. so my transport sources are limited.

With that added info it makes a lot more sense. He is getting more value out of his scrap with minimal effort (just dropping off and picking up) and you are able to get your hands on material and make some money without any needs to worry about transportation issues.

Sounds win win to me, I wish you the best with this olddude.

I have a similar situation. My next door neighbor scraps. He sells me his insulated wire and small motors(under 25lbs.). I pay yard price on the mtrs and #2 insulated price on the wire. I don't strip all the wire just the easy to strip type . I beak down all the motors except the ones which have Al windings and just sell them to the salvage yard for what I paid. Its not the most profitable arrangement but far better than nothing. Mike.

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked

Better figure in your expenses in breaking down those motors. Cutting wheels, sawzall blades, electric to run the compressor or saw......you have to add that in. On top of that you have your time that is being taken away from working deals because your breaking motors down all day. That 2.50-3.00 per pound might not be so.....just something to think about.
