    co op thread ?

this is not intended to rile any one but just a thought, brought up by another member yesterday.
this forum is already a co op of Ideas, and education. should or could it be extended into a co op of action ?
I started from 0, and I mean 0, no transportation, no $ nothing, and with what I have learned on this forum, and just what I found lying around on my property now have my head above water for the first time in several years, and it has taken only a few months.

I credit that to this forum and its members along with my own stubborn refusal to just give up.

I am joining the scrap room, because for the first time I can afford to do so. However I am still just small time like many others here. Because of that there are oppertunitys out there I cant take advantage of. opertunities that some members in close proximity could, as a co op. the benifit would cover the gambit from the $1000 buy to the $100,000 buy.

I fully understand the need of the forum to support it self, a forum of this type is not free or cheep to build or maintain. on the other side of the coin there are members here who are in the position I was in financially just a short time ago, so here are the questions.

Is a co op section or thread of interest and benifit to members of the forum.

should it be included in the scrap room section, as a paid membership benifit.

should it be a seperate section either free or paid with a smaller fee to afford small members access. ( obviously we all like Free but we have to be realistic here.)

with all of that said I fully realise this forum is not a democracy, and the ultimate choice is that if the administrators and the owners of the forum I am not trying to stir the pot here, I truley believe this could be a big boost for the forum as a whole. It would not be a buy or sell section, but simply an opertunity to share success.

I'm speaking as a forum member here - not as a moderator. Olddude, I'm wanting to clarify what this would be. Are you talking about listing where there is scrap so that other members could see if they want to go after it? Isn't that the same as the current forum - "Scrap Metal Spots"? I know I've put several leads on there when I get calls or emails about stuff that too far for me.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

I interpret it as being more a financial pool of some sort.

no what im suggesting is this pure and simple. scrapper A has access to x ammount of what ever. at a certain price. he cant afford to buy the whole load. so he/she offers to share the load with other scrappers in the area so they can all benifit and not lose the load to big yards. the offer would be at the buying price of the original scrapper so no extra fee or profit would be derived, or advantage taken of fellow forum members. simply a strait, there is x lbs of lead available I can buy this much does any one else want the rest. case in point: I have access to x ammount of Y but I have to buy the whole load. any one interested in sharing the load. in this particular case the co op would benifit 3 members of the forum or more, with out this option, all 4 members lose. the buy sell thread really dosent touch this Idea as I believe most small members who would benifit from this thread seldome go to the buy and sell thread because they are not able to buy or sell large ammounts, this new thread or section would solve that problem. for example my first visit to the buy and sell section was today, and as I suspected there is nothing there to benifit the small scrapper other then the buyers of small quanitiew.

this is what I thought you meant olddude and I love it, that's why I offered to go in with you on the 2nd (3rd) whale. It sounds like a wonderful idea to me. If you didn't land that whale I'll be ready for the next one. The main thing is, the one who does the negotiating had to be as trusted and respected as you are. People can really get burned if they do business with a noob. Not that all noobs are crooked, by any means.

I have been told such discussions are a no no so nuff said. thats why I think this new section would be a boon to many like us on the forum and would help many small timers like you and me. I am going to join the scrap room now that i can safely afford it but the buy sell section just dosent quite cover this.

I like the idea. But I think it might put too much liability back on the forum owners. That being said...I think we're all in agreement that if we were to find a group of like minded persons to go in on a deal together, this WOULD be the place to do it.

the problem is it is allowed only under the buy and sell section it is not actually not a buy or a sell but a co op between members. I am trying to see if there is enough intrest to start a co op section either payed or free.

Not to get tooooo silly with words but it could also be call an opportunity section. A place where members could alert others to possible business. This could also include a proposed cooperation between 2 or more members for a one time deal or ongoing enterprise.

If the forum does not endorse any of the current buyer/sellers and can not be held libel then the same would be true for this proposed section regardless of the title. Mike.

That is why the forum owners and moderators would just put a disclaimer sticky thread that would state that they are not held liable for any business that is transacted amongst members.

It is a good thought. However, (had to be one of those right?), in my opinion, there is nothing from stopping that stuff from going on. I think most people here are aware of the scrappers that are within an hours drive from them and we have seen evidence of them meeting up because of meeting on this forum. I think those are the relationships that will benefit from this and those relationships are being formed. I know right now that if I found something a little too big for me, I would contact the one scrapper in the same town as I am that I have met on this forum and work something with biggerhammer and share the load. Other than that, I have not met anyone else close to me location wise.

This being said, these relationships are already forming throughout the forum, just not to that degree yet, so anything that may help that along is a good idea.

Soooooo...... keep up the discussion and maybe something can become of it.

And yes, would need to be a closed area with just people we know in my opinion.

I think this is a excellent idea in fact i had considered starting a similiar thread.I have yet to meet anyone on this forum that is really close to my area. Here is a example of how this could work.Because i have limited space i concentrate on small stuff like appliances and non ferrous and i turn down leads on cars and larger stuff. If i made contact with somone that in my area that i could trust not to make me look like a ass i wuld be more than happy to give them leads in return for the same

I believe the scrappers here on the forum are much more trustworthy then those I have neighbor hood access to. we have gotten to know them better. there is only one local scrapper I would trust., and Im not sure just how far.

and yes there is something preventing this, current forum rules or regulations, when you are talking 500 to 1000 dollar profits, how far is too far.

lets suppose I have a load of x and can only afford half and there is a 500 profit in x for one days easy work. how far and how much time would you spend to pick up an easy $250.

I fulluy realise that $250 for a 100 mile drive and a days easy work dosen't stir the blood of some here but it does mine.

we are trying to help out each other, I really cant think of much that would be a bigger help then to put cash in some ones pocket.

You could start with putting your location under your name. This would help people know where you are. I know myself and KZbell go to auctions together and talk shop all the time. We met on this site. I have also made friends with area67 and drove 2.5 hours down to his shop and have a working relationship with him now as well. Alot of good people on this forum. But if people would put there location in their profile so it shows up when they post it would help.
