Oh Lord, now you've done it bcoop....you've given olddude an idea...I can see him out back stuck between 50 of those magnets and his iron pile !!! Seriously, my opinion of you has gone up a few notches...have you talked to a silkscreening co. as opposed to regular printer ? Good luck, you may get rich.

Heh, steal away. I figured some of you might like the idea enough to use. That Being said it really was a pain. Some things to consider before you "dive" in.
1.Not all Hardrives magnets are the same shape and size. Some even have bends and uneven surfaces. If you find a brand that has the type if magnet you like odds are most of them will be similar. These are out of of older fujitsu's I believe.
2. Painting was a pain. I learned the hard way. Lightly sand or scuff the metal. Apply the zippy foam pad. Then use an etching primer followed by a regular primer then paint. Also there was a few times during this process my magnets got to close to each other and whack... Messed up paint job.
3. Then lastly you have the issues of getting your text on it. I talked to several people and companies. Silk screening appeared to be the best route but I only did about 12 and did not want to pay the money for that. I talked to another company about a custom stamp with some industrial grade white ink. They seemed to think that would not look good and suggest s bronze stencil.
Like I said it was a pain. I nearly gave up 3 times. It was kind of a "nifty" idea that started to turn into a nightmare.
Best of luck :)

It really is a "nifty" idea, bcoop, but really, only computer geeks and e-waste folks will "get it" anyway...kind of a waste on the avg. prospective "client". Would be great for giving to just "choice" prospects, like computer repair places. It would make a great first impression on them. Too bad they can't be sliced into like a loaf of bread so you could make 2 or 3 out of one.

A lot af hard drives does have 2 magnets in them;;

Just a thought, but could you use a rubber dip or aerosol spray to paint these? Something like:
Plasti-Dip on Ebay
This wasn't the cheapest I could find, it is just an example.
