    My "Buisness Card"

Not really looking for criticism here. Just showing one of my latest projects.

I am just a part timer and consider myself more of just a "hobbyist". I am not looking for huge projects or to move a lot of product. I basically work out of my car a few hours a week. The extra (albeit small) cash helps and I enjoy a good mind numbing project

That being said I wanted to have my contact info at the ready to give to the folks that would have either given me or could give me some semi steady business. I am not a fan of business cards and the numerous ones that have passed through my hands usually end up on the garbage or lost on my desk (which is about as good as the garbage).

I wanted something unique (perhaps memorable), functional, and would have better odds at a longer life getting stuck to a fridge or filing cabinet then put into the garbage.

I took several of the magnets I get out of hardives and made me a small batch of these.

They were actually a pain in the butt to put together.

Either I am seeing things, or that is an old break pad.

I will take your word for it, but it sure looks like a brake pad to me.

Good idea. If he continues with it, hopefully he has a steady supply coming in.

Thats pretty freakin great. And just think, if they put it in the same pocket as their cell phone.....BOOM, they'll (Eventually) call you to take the old phone!

    I dig it man.

Heh, yes those magnets are really strong. I actually "installed" a pad on the back to reduce some of the magnetism. When I was toying with this idea I ran it past an older family member. The first thing they did was stick it to the fridge and I heard a big "Wham" as it stuck. Then watching them try to remove it from the fridge was entertaining yet troublesome. The foam pad helps out a lot.

Next to a quarter to give you an idea of size.

I love the thinking - very cool.
I know lying is wrong, but if the elephant man came in now in a blouse with some make up on, and said, "How do I look?" Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say, "Go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny?" No. You'd say, "You look nice... John""

Might want a brighter color so your printing jumps out at you, you know, stand out.

How was it printed, silk screen? Mike. (I guess a stamp could be made cheaply and used)

ps GeorgeB, please tear a hard drive apart so you will recognize a hard drive magnet, Mike.

I wasn't disagreeing with KZBell. Just simply stating what it looked like to me is all. Looked like a small break pad.

It was actually printed on sticky transparent waterslide decal paper. I originally wanted it to be white but most printers cannot print in white believe it or not. I tried yellow and grey but it blended in and did not look so good. I really wanted to use white vinyl lettering but the text was too small and would tear. When I said this was a pain to put together it really was. Learned a lot about how to paint metal properly during this process as well.

very cool, but a little expensive, those magnets are worth up to $22 a lb. just gave me a great Idea , will disclose later after a little expermenting.

Factoid: best color combination for advertising notice is black on yellow, thats why yellow pages are yellow with black print, which by the way an accidental discovery when a printer ran out of white paper and used yellow to pringt the forst "official" yellow pages.
