any one know off hand how many HD boards to make a LB
Just going from memory Olddude, I think last time I needed to know it took 7 or 8. I could be wrong though, just from memory.
I've got a couple hundred in the shop, so if you know the type I can weigh some for you.

I was going to say they can vary significantly. If I was bidding on 6000 I would certainly use a conservative estimate for average weight.

I would estimate 6000 hd boards at around 33 LBS. That would be my best guess.
I get roughly the same results as PTS. Only other note is some of the old SCSI boards were pushing close to 4 ounces. Better bid very conservatively.

ya guess that was a noob question shoulda known better but im allowed one every 100 posts or so.
these are out of IBM and sun servers. the drives weigh in at about 2.2 lb ea. havent seen them yet. also bidding on the 6000 servers but they are going to be touch and go some are ui (2 processors up to u5 with 8 to 16 processors, mother boards are 3.5 lb ea. ram and copper heat sinks will probably be missing. as the IT guys from these companys tend to keep the ram and heat sinks for spares.

Well then that makes a difference I would imagine they are all scsi drives and might be a little heavier better board. Let me tear one apart and weight it for you quick.

I do not get 33 lbs. If you figure each board is 1oz and you had 6000 boards you would have 6000oz. 6000oz/16z=375lbs, pretty big difference from 33lbs. We take all our hard drive boards off and we get an average of 1.35oz of boards for every pound of hard drives. So 6000lbs we would figure there to be 8100oz of boards. 8100oz of boards would end up being 506lbs of boards.
