    That really, really sucks, olddude.

It is so surreal to watch CSI and all those other tv shows where people get a partial fingerprint from a crime scene, run it through a computer database and immediately nail the perp vs. the real world where they can't tell you fast enough that there is not much they can do. Did they even dust for prints? Those guys were probably not smart enough to wear gloves. You might want to ask them to do that. I was stalked once and had to get collect my own evidence and put mass pressure on law enforcement. Squeaky wheel, you know.

Hope you get your stuff back. That's gotta hurt.

Would your homeowner's insurance cover it maybe?

Thats a good idea, pen ink is like DNA, every batch is different & Scotland yard operates a 'pen register' where they have a sample of every batch of ink ever made & can compear it against any other sample.

I'd suggest a small spray bottle of water with a solution of highlighter ink/water/small amount of alcohol in it, just a spray on your scrap & its marked from then on.
You use a UV torch in the dark & that ink just 'jumps out at you' from the darkness.
Pretty amazing really, those new UV LED's are far far brighter than any flouro UV bulb.

We were at a computer drive and got absolutely slammed with material, I mean 3 tractor trailer loads of stuff, and had hundreds worths of straps and tiedowns taken as well as a couple new heavy duty dollies taken. How/when someone took them, I have no clue. Was not worth as much as some of you have had stolen, but It still was a sucker punch.

This is used in the UK:

    Smartwater

Every batch made is unique and registered to you. It glows under UV, so if the police find any they take a swab and match it on the system. It is used on bike parts, church roofs, valuable objects left on display, to combat emplyee theft, and also in sprinkler systems that are installed in shops and banks so that when the alarm button is pressed the mist sprays over the exit door and the robber has to run through it to get out.

It is also used on cable:

I know lying is wrong, but if the elephant man came in now in a blouse with some make up on, and said, "How do I look?" Would you say, bearing in mind he's depressed and has respiratory problems, would you say, "Go and take that blusher off you mis-shapened elephant tranny?" No. You'd say, "You look nice... John""

Olddude Hope they catch the low life scumbags who take what belongs to others for their own benefit. I know what your going through, our house got broken into. We got a few important things back after they got caught. For us it wasn't so much what they took as they violated our space. Whoever did this to you will get their just reward either through the laws of man or the laws of God.

Another option is a marking pen. Google "UV marking pen" use the quotation marks it narrows your search to just those words. lots of options, some so inexpensive that it would not add any measurable amount of cost to what we do. Gonna get me some and mark stuff in the shed and house.

Confront your suspects in person with back up, that makes a large impression for the future. Police are good for insurance reports. In my rural county the Sheriffs department is so broke they only respond to blood. Very sorry to hear your loss, I am so worried about getting hit I sell every chance I can get....

My friend with the truck repair garage has asked me if i want to spend some time at his shop this holiday weekend , as on Thanksgiving and Easter someone has hit his shop and stolen his scrap metal , right now he has way over 90 trailer brake drums alone , and is too busy to scrap it .
Has anyone tried the driveway alarm from Harbor Freight ? For $ 17.99 might just try it .
