    Possible Whale on the line!

Have been emailing back and forth with a board member of a local area recycling co-op, they don't want to pay the disposal fees and are looking for someone to haul away their e-waste, everything from toasters to tv's basically, anything with a cord. He is talking about the equivelant of 2 tractor trailer loads a month. My partner and I have discussed buying a plastic regrinder so we could sell the plastic. It feels like the break we've been waiting for, just concerned that it would turn into to much work with not enough return. What do you guys think?

A hammer mill would take care of the plastic the best for maybe not too much money. A lot of farmers have them and maybe you could snag one up off of CraigsList. I haul away alot of free electronics and I make quite a bit off of the free stuff thank to this free info.

Maybe you could ask them for a rundown of what they get. You could end up with all monitors and no computers etc. if you're not careful . I almost put in a bid to do the same thing with our county recycling agency (currently a Knoxville company has the contract and it was up for renewal) but they couldn't (or wouldn't) give me any idea of what the breakdown was - it was the same thing - anything with a cord.

So I passed. Also I don't have a partner. And I thought that if e-scrap really catches on around here - all the really good stuff could end up being taken- even though getting a good amount of anything scrappable for free is probably not a bad thing- as long as you can handle the waste.

But it might work for you since you are in a different situation and are better able to deal with the volume and the plastic.

Oh I want it, its just a little intimidating. considering logistics costs and everything, I worry that we could be missing something. I have a cdl and a truck, we are talking about spotting a trailer on their lot and keeping one here at the shop and swapping them out twice a month. until we aquire the trailers we would be making several trips in a 16ft box truck.

We are setting up a meeting with the board of directors so we can tour their facility, hopefully I'll have a better Idea of what we're dealing with then.

This type of deal can be overwhelming if you are not prepaired to handle that much stuff. I know a scrper that had a deal like that, he had five employees and still could not handle the amount of stuff he was getting. That was after he gave me all his telephones, vacuums and truck loads of printers. His contract ended six months ago and he still has tons of stuff to brake down. Maybe you could sell some of the stuff to people on this forum cheap so everybody could make some money. Just an idea.
