Well as an IT guy we start looking at replacing servers at the 3 year mark or at least building redundancy in the network. This is for things that are mission critical. I have 5 year old servers in some of my customers networks but they are for things that if they break I can do without for a day or so. If this company is as big as implied then 3-5 year old servers are definitely end of life for them and need replacing.
Miked is right though olddude you might not want to scrap them out because if they are functioning three year old servers then you can sell them whole for more than scrap value. I have three right now that I need to work on getting rid of in that same boat. One is a Supermicro Quad
Core Xeon with 8GB of Ram just gotta find a buyer on it.
