    Cool big money idea!

One of the most popular things i get called to pick up are 275 gallon oil tanks. ive stopped picking them up recently though because the oils starting to be a pain. While scrolling thru craigslist i found a few guys that buy this oil and theyll even remove it themselves!. they pay 2 dollars a gallon. lets do some math. even if the tank has 200 gallons left . thats 400 DOLLARS!!! plus w.e you make off the scrap tank. just something to think about for you guys. and yes im gonna start taking them again

You are talking about above ground or in the basement types, right? In ground removal has to be tested, removed, re-tested by state certified people here in NJ. I don't think any of that is needed for basement or above ground units. Just don't spill any of it, or the EPA (in NJ) gets on your butt real fast.

if you drive a deisel truck you can cut it 1/2 with fuel and run it in the truck depending on what kind of oil it is, i run old motor oil or whatever other light oil i find free in my old idi ford/international uhaul flatbed

I scrapped a fuel oil tank that set on the property and sold all the fuel oil to a neighbor farmer down the road, he was happy as all get out to buy it for 1.50 a gal. Filtered it and ran it thru his older tractor.

Wrestle the tank onto an end by tipping it slide it into your pick up truck.

The used oil tanks are not a great find, the tanks are not always full you may only get 10 or 15 gallons perhaps even less if your not using heating oil at home you have to find an alternative to dealing with the waste. No one is going to buy such a small amount.

If your lucky to find a full tank your in for a good payday, on most heating conversions where the tank was near full and the oil was fresh the oil company would come and pump out the tank for the customer.

Heating and old diesel oil becomes waxy and has to be run through a filter capable of rejuvenating the oil, large fishing vessels that have been laid up for long periods will call in a company that specializes in polishing the fuel, removing the wax.

With these newer diesel that have electronic injectors there's not a hope in hades that I would even attempt using a 50/50 mix of new and old fuel.

Some info here on polishing duel oil, Diesel Fuel Polishing

I have done 2 oil pump outs, for over 200 gallons of heating oil.Filled mine and my buddy's house and ran my truck for weeks,
Still have to go back for the tank at one house, i consider that a pain though because its in a low basement, then when you cut it in half the insides are always full of sludge
