Don't say I didn't tell you so. You had a week and a half to get it while the getting was good. Its so volatile right now it is going to drop more. Whoever your selling to might just drop it at a dimes notice even in the middle of this week or next week. I just wonder what next month holds?

Prices here in Dallas on scrap metal is still going strong but I have seen a slight shift in pricing and how hard they are hitting it. But Dallas plays a huge roll in the scrap market so we hold out better than some of the smaller towns/citys.

Yes you did and thank you. I dumped almost a ton of tin last week at $180, it's at $160 and falling this week.

    I predict $1,000/ton by year 2020. No basis...just a gut feeling.

.50 a pound for steel, people will take your mailbox at that price. But by 2020 I am sure we will have no mail service! LOL

$30/nt drop on all ferrous grades in Dallas. I'm expecting sideways or lower next month as well.

    Nope, iron. Just a hunch.

1,000/ton for copper would be a pretty serious drop.

Sure glad I emptied my inventory (mainly steel/tin & aluminum) before I left for Colorado. All I have now is the haul Hoss and I got.

About 6 months ago we were at $160 a ton here...went up to $260ish and now settling somewhere in the middle. All part of the law of averages.

I'm new to business so this maybe a dumb question...but, how often does this happen? Any idea how long it'll be before it rises again?

On some scale - yearly. Hard to tell, but it will.

Yep. No need to go all chicken little. This was the longest that I can remember it going into the summer without a small correction. We dropped $50 a ton (or 20%) in the past couple weeks. I can remember years when it dropped 50% or more end of spring, first of summer. It's a pretty normal thing, up here anyhow.

My completely unscientific observation in recent years:

When gas prices drop dramatically, so does scrap.

    It's down to $140 today.

I unloaded my cast Al last week @ 0.55 which is 0.50 today.

I got rid of my aluminum wound motors today @ 0.25 which is going to 0.23 tomorrow.

I took in all the batteries also today @ 0.25 because who knows what they'll be next week.

Anyway thanks to the OP for this thread as it gave me the kick I needed to stop hoarding and start selling.

Took in a load today got $.33/lb for batteries, someone quoted us too high. Same yard was paying $.07/lb for shred. The yard we took our shred to payed $.09/lb usually prices here are $.09-.10/lb. All other prices are unchanged over the past month for the most part.

Midwest markets settled for the month of July and everything is down $45.00/GT across the board. If your prices haven't dropped yet this month I would be expecting them to.

Hopefully this is the bottom. Some I have talked to have said they expect an uptick in the market for August. I hope they are right.
