Hey everyone,
"Junkman Dan" here, I've been checking out this forum at varying times for awhile and finally decided to take the plunge and join. I got into the scrapping business a little over a year ago when I was working an unsteady job and desperately needed extra money to pay my bills and have a little left over. Although I have something stable now, I still scrap on the side for extra money. I am, however, looking to leave the day to day grind soon and eventually have my own junk removal business, and have been focusing on getting it started quite a bit lately, spending most of my free time dedicated to that end. Just recently bought a small pickup (s10) to make carrying
scrap metal/unwanted junk alot easier and it gets the job done. I usually acquire my scrap before trash pickup (misc. metal items, old appliances and even old electronics that are being thrown out), but I also keep an eye out on CL or Freecycle in my local area to see what people are getting rid of too.
In addition to scrapping, if I find stuff that I can easily and cheaply fix (and if it's worth my time) that's being thrown out, I'll either use it for myself or see if it's worth selling, so refurbishing/reconditioning is another aspect of my little business that I'm looking to do as well (picked up an oscillating fan out junking that works, just needed the blade reattached to the motor of the fan, and good as new, might keep that one for myself, but don't know).
I think I made a pretty decent introduction here. Pretty much touched on how I got into doing all of this...
