Hi everyone - new scrapper from Maine

    Hi guys,

My name is James. I'm 26 years old and from Maine. I work 9-5 M-F in an office job, but I have been wanting to maximize my free time for a long time now. After months of trying to find a part time job to fit my schedule, the idea of scrapping came to mind. Fortunately for me, I just bought a truck a couple months ago. It's a nice little 2002 Chevy s10, 4cylinder. Not a huge hauling machine, but pretty good on gas. With the low mileage and synthetic oil I got in it, I get about 23-24 mpg with my Tonneau cover on there.

I am just in the beginning stages of scrapping, but I wouldn't call myself completely ignorant. I've been doing a LOT of reading on forums like these, youtube how-to videos, and other sites to acquire as much knowledge as possible. I feel myself gaining more and more information every day. These forums have been a TREMENDOUS help. So firstly, thanks!

I am newly single, and just moved into my own place. With this in mind, I have just about 100% of my non-9-5 hours to devote to scrapping, learning new skills and making money. I understand it can be a fierce, competitive game, but I would consider myself above average intelligence and street smarts. I also love being able to work within my schedule, and allow my work ethic and drive to control how much money I make. All of that leans towards scrapping being perfect for me. I work in sales and in the business world, so I'm very familiar with the power of networking and marketing. As I get myself setup, I'm going to market hard.

I just had my first ever scrap metal haul recently. Pulled two dryers, a washer, an AC, two pieces of small scrap and a filing cabinet from a basement. I scraped one dryer, two small pieces of scrap and the filing cabinet for 17$. I believe I made a mistake and didn't take anything out of the dryer. That's my newbie-mistake. I recognized that the other dryer and washer were good quality, and was able to sell them for 60$ on Craigslist. 77$ made, with about 7$ in gas (everything was local.) 70$ profit!

I just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself, as I will be a very active and consistent member of the forums.

Thanks in advance for your time reading this.

    -James

God is great, scrap is good, and people are crazy

Its better to be scrapping and thinking of God than sitting in church thinking of scrapping

Hi there. Sorry, didn't see this message right away. Great to meet someone from the (kinda?) area. If there's anything I can ever do up here for you, let me know. I'll let you know if I ever hear of anything good down in your area.

Unfortunately, this thread was from last June. Southern Maine get-together still is a good idea.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

ginofrater bumped it. Most of the time I click the "What's New" button and don't pay attention to the thread starting date.
