Hello to everyone. I found this site recently while trying to find information on
scrap prices. After reading some of the experiences in the life of a scrapper I decided that this seems to be a friendly place. Hopefully I can contribute from my experiences and learn from some of you.
I came into scrapping because I had the good fortune to meet "Willie" about two years ago. We talked about all things and he got me interested in "scrappin".
Willie died almost 1 year ago and near as I can figure he had been scrapping for 30 to 40 years. He was 78 but only admitted to being ''60 sumtin''. He was throwing steel up until a week before he died. One day he parked the old white Ford 250, went upstairs to his apartment and laid down.
Hopefully I can be like him. He knew many people over the years and was kind to everyone. He was fair and hardworking and always had stories to tell to those he met. He had fun at it also even when scrap was hardly worth picking up. I think he would agree with what I saw in someone else's thread "A bad day of scrapping is better than a good day working for the boss".
