arnofarrell, i am new to the site

New to the site and still kinda to scrapping. I live in the country in Northwest Iowa. I am an honorably discharged marine. I have had a scrapper stop by about 2 years ago and he and I have become good friends. He brought alot of my stuff in a couple years ago but since then he has been having problems or family matters every time I talk to him. He had a daughter and doesnt have much time to do this anymore. He was going to show me the ropes and tell me what is what and help divide my stuff. So at the moment I dont know alot besides what is copper, brass, aluminium, steel and tin. I dont know all the diffences between between the types of copper etc. I would love to learn because I am the only one in my area that would be doing full time. Thanks guys and gals.

OoooRah and welcome to the forum. I'm a retired Gunny and you will find many more former military on the forum as well as many who honor your service.

My very best advise is to read ALL the old posts on the forum. Its a lot of reading but not so much you can't do it. The education you will recieve will make you more money. Even if you don't fully understand something written about on the forum later when you run into it you will recognize it. I said it before the information available for free here is better than many college degrees(I have two). Mike.

Now go beat the copper out of something, Miked

also, you will find that you learn more with each trip to the yard. you will see what they grade your materials as, and you will see what other people bring in all around you. i look at people's loads and their buckets and ask about anything i dont understand. educations are expensive, and sometimes you have to learn what your material is worth by that feeling of being cheated on a fair price because you mistakenly mixed it with low grade stuff, not knowing the difference. you learn quick when you're on fire.

each trip to the scrap yard, each item you break down, and each thread or google search you read and each youtube video you watch will teach you just about everything you need to know to get ahead in this business. good luck, man. its fun and challenging and can be lucrative if you are resourceful

I have seen alot of service men on here. I have a question how do I get the military veteran tag or whatever that is called under my name. If you couldn't tell I am not good with computers. This is the first forum I have been a part of. Thanks for all the advice.

Welcome to the forum. To get that tag you have to post on the thread labeled "Roll Call". Also read, read, read, read, and read some more.

Welcome. I see from your profile that you are a coin collector. I am also one. What do you mainly collect? I love Morgans and Barbers.

One of my very first coins was a morgan and I have always had a soft spot for them. I ended up with alot of Australian coins from the 20's to the 40's from my great uncle. Ever since then I have loved them. I like all american coins, not so much the state quarters and the onces since then. I have a little bit of everything except really old american coins, I have been trying to work on that.
