    New guy here

Whata goin on everyone. New guy here from queens ny. Really just wondering if this scrap metal business stuff is worth going into even if just as a hobby. I really could use some extra cash on the side and not sure if this is the way to go.

I have a access to a van that I can pack out with stuff so I'm kinda just wondering if a few hours a week traveling around looking for stuff would be worth the hassle. Or is it even a hassle? It just seems too good to be true to get some money from other peoples trash.

    Thank you guys.

always worth the hassle. And we live in a massively wasteful society so cash from the trash is better then cash from corporate.

welcome , I would try others ways of gathering items , gas is expensive to ride around , get some flyers out there or business cards, do you have storage? a place to break stuff down?

I have a place to break stuff down, but not really a place to store stuff. I could make some flyers and hand them out to neighboring stores and see what they want to rid of.

Collecting waste in the 5 Boroughs of NYC requires a License or Registration from the Business Integrity Commission. If you are caught collecting/transporting waste in the 5 boroughs without a license they will impound your vehicle and arrest you for unlicensed activity.

Well, you want to listen to what a guy local to you is saying but I'm about as part time as you can get. I'm retired and don't like to work if it's "too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry or I've got something else to do". On a yearly basis, I still average $100 a week.

People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
