    Talking i am a complete newbie to SMF!!!

    my name is cathy and i am not really a scrapper (yet???) just came on here to ck out prices - since my dad (deceased) and bro (alive) have a LOT of spare auto parts and generators and stuff like that i was wondering if it would be worth my while to take them to a scrap yard. wheel rims, old tools, farmers old plows, etc. i was also wondering about silverware stuff and this site confused me w/ a silver scrap price of per pound instead of per ounce. why does scrap monster list the silver scrap in pounds? does anyone know why? if anyone has any ideas - please let me know. i live in south jersey about 10miles from a scrap/recycling place. so just wondering. this seems like a very nice website/forum so far.

    Welcome to the forum. You have lots to learn and here is the place to learn it. If it is metal it is worth scraping. Many things are worth much more than the scrap value an example starters and alternators can and are rebuilt and resold. Many old tools can be sold for a lot more than scrap. Silverware stuff is often made of stainless steel(SS) and is worth more than regular steel. So silverware is normally not made of silver. I recomend you go to the beginners section and read the sticky theads. Mike

    From what you've described, it sounds old. I would attempt to sell those things because they will never be made again.

    Welcome to the forum. Read as much as you can,there is alot to learn and it might be confusing at first but stick with it and in time it will all come together. Once you bring your first load to the scrap yard you'll be hooked. good luck and keep us posted as to how you are doing.
