Been scrapping for several years now, on and off...
Not really big into scrapping, don't own a truck... so it is basically what I can fit into my 2001 Buick Regal!
Usually I just do my normal driving around and find a lot of stuff at the curbside... mainly TVs, computers, electrical cords, etc.
I try and NOT scrap light iron, as this is what my scrap yard groups EVERYTHING metallic, and 3 weeks ago it was only paying $0.08/lb
So, I try and stick to non-metallic metals.. ie. copper wires, aluminum from computers, (I try to avoid cans), brass, car batteries, etc.
When I go to my local scrap yard, I usually have about 6 different types of metals...
I go to garage and estate sales, and try and pick up brass items really cheap.
Scrap prices 2 weeks ago...(everything in lb) #1 cu- $3; #2 cu- $2.90; clean alum- $0.55; dirty$0.20; car batt- $0.20; brass- $2; light iron $0.08.
I am not in this to get rich... just make a little bit off the land!
My girlfriend is the person that turned me onto this site. She has also been the one that is responsible for me getting my metals organized and I even took her to the
scrap metal yard to see first-hand the business.
Anyway... that is a little about me, my world, and my yard!
