Hey, all,
Just realized I should post an intro. Sorry it wasn't my first post.
I'm from Sterling Heights, MI, and I have been curb shopping on and off for years. Did not place too much importance on scrap metals until recently; for the most part I was content to leave that to the guys trying to earn a living. Recently we had some major expenses around here my day job just wouldn't cover, and my wife's work is seasonal, so I've turned to scrapping to make a few bucks.
I have a full time job as a software developer and scrap when I have the time. I enjoy working with my hands and moving stuff instead of always working with my brain and writing stuff. I'm 44, so I can't sling big steel with the young bucks, but I do okay.
I'll never move big volumes, but I always can use a few extra bucks, and I've been impressed with how helpful the guys at the local yard (Admiral) -- both scrappers and employees alike -- have been when I've gone there.
If you need help with a website or a computer issue, I will do side jobs for reasonable prices after hours remotely from home. My other interests are being part of the local CERT team, geocaching, boating, making and drinking beer, writing, and local politics.
Anyway, I've been reading a lot and learning a lot, and just wanted to say thanks for all the good info I've absorbed so far. Hope to spend some good times hanging out here.
