    Brand New

I am brand new to the scrap metal business. I have actually gotten a start by helping my mother in law clean up some land she has where a lot of metal has been dumped. Among the scrap are some old Dish Network satellite dishes. Has anyone dealt with these? Can they be recycled, or are they always the property of Dish Network?

Hello OG, and welcome to SMF Are they the old fiberglass type satellite dish? I've seen people want those for gazebo tops and such, but i doubt they'd bring much that way. Might have to try Freecycle, and giving them away, to avoid dump fees

I have recycled many of the metal ones. I believe they are not property of dish network. Although I may be mistaken. I've never heard of them coming to retrieve them from somebody...ever. I have seen many curbside and, I've had many given to me from family/ friends.

As a matter of fact funny story. I just got back from my storage facility where I store my scrap trailer. I called my partner to see if he had thrown a satellite dish connected to a 10 ft inside of it. He said no... we both chuckled. Someone wasprobably cleaning out their storage unit and saw all the metal and appliances in it( its an open top) and pitched it in!

I've got a bunch of them on the pile. One on a tree that was hooked up to my Mother-in-law's TV. The dish belongs to the subscriber.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Yes, check them for their circuit boards and rip them out. The rest will go for shred.

The metal ones can be recycled but have never seen circuit boards in the dish part only in the receiver that is inside the house.

The arm looking thing that extends from the dish. The part the pulls in the signal from the satellites, the board is underneath the white plastic looking things.
