    Mobile Home Miner from PA.

My Name is Matt. I haul scrap to Penn Recycling in Williamsport, Pa. The scrap consists of 'mobile home' park teardown and clean up efforts. I must confess to having more time than money. And to being nothing more than some sort of glorified dead beat that has meticulously torn down 3 old mobile homes in the past 8 months. And has two more yet to go.

P.S. I have probably hoarded at least a weight equal to what I have sold thus far. It might suffice to say that I have a pretty loose definition of better than scrap value metals. For instance, is an 11 ft length of mobile home I-beam worth more than scrap value?

Hey Matt, welcome to SMF I'd certainly give it a try on CL or something, if there was time and i wasn't rushed in moving it. Is 11 ft the longest lengths you can get it? I also saw a reference to I beams being a higher "structural" grade at their yard

Also those old mobile homes usually have an older type furnace, with a fan blower in it. I have two of them here I'm saving to take by a HVAC shop sometimes to see if they would ever use them for repairs, new replacements cost several hundred dollars

Yeah, I guess I could craigslist that sort of thing. But, from a liability/ethics stand point I don't think I'd feel safe marketing them directly to Joe Smith off the street. After all, these scrap-able mobile homes have likely been moved more times than what they were designed and not to mention that mobile homes were cheaply manufactured in the first place. Meaning that the iron has been stressed. I could market 10-12 footers or under... probably would need to become a limited liability corporation or something along those lines, because who knows what Joe Smith is capable of doing with building component x. But, I could easily make sheds out of them or at least I assume I could, probably still would need to become llc to market them. But for now I'm going to make *myself* a little workshop to call my own.

If your scrapping the frames cutting the material up in smaller pieces (3ft. and smaller) usually gets you the better price.
