I remember collecting scrap items when I was a kid. Cans and bottles to exchange for candy, RC and moon pies.. Other interesting tidbits of junk/scrap not to recycle but just because they were cool... motorcycle parts, go-kart bits and pieces, signs, old tools, etc... I had a mini junkyard in my parents toolshed... I loved my grandpa's house, he was a tinkerer, inventor and model train fanatic... had every sort of metalworking tool available at the time... and a ton of cool scrap items he would collect to work with.
I've always been fascinated by what some people considered junk/scrap.
Anyway, after finally realizing I hated sitting a desk all day writing software and nothing else for the last 20 years... I decided to take the job flexibility I have to start spending a little more time doing stuff I actually enjoy: became a scout leader with my son, taking cooking classes with my daughter, went to tech school to learn welding (love TIG), started renovating houses, wrenching on cars... I love working with my hands... creating things... building things...
Anyway, to make a long story short I remembered how much I loved searching for interesting finds in other peoples junk... This time I'm looking to see how I can find, re-purpose and reuse interesting and unusual scrap(ish) items. Maybe a self supporting hobby with a beer money kicker ? We'll see... still trying to figure it all out.
