Everyone has their home contents on the lawn waiting for clean up crews to come. Appliances are gone but lots of e waste. Currently picking computers. Am I maybe overlooking more valuable items? Put me in the game coach!

Think I'd tread carefully on that scrap run R2r, talk to the owner at every location
Bear is right, tread carefully. When Hurricane Irene and TS Lee destroyed parts of Northern NJ, lots of stuff went on lawns with people waiting for insurance adjusters to come by and look it over. Also think about what those people are feeling as you go through their stuff. Still on the lawn means it is still theirs. Around here scrappers were looked upon as vultures during that time.
Talk to the owners and see if they are waiting for insurance or throwing it out. Then offer to take everything as a way of helping them through the disaster. Don't pick through it right then and there, take it all.
Just my opinion.
Thanks and I have been asking. And I see the hurt in people too. They feel like im a volture. The city is moving faster in clean up efforts, and alot of people just want the trash out of their yard. Are big screen tv's > computers? I dont know what to ask for.
Drop off flyers with your info. People will be calling 1 800 junk when they are ready to get rid of the stuff.
hobo's idea might be best, if you want long term relations with those folks, just stop by and leave a card and tell them you'll be available anytime they're ready to start cleaning it out
Take it from someone who has done disaster cleanup (NASHVILLE FLOOD A COUPLE YEARS AGO).........Always hand out biz cards and ask for everything.........I even had police escorts into some areas due to all the vultures as I was running a legitimate biz

I worked Katrina. at best you are going to be considered a vulture, and treated as such. At worst you are going to be considered a looter and can be shot on site. over 100 "looters" were shot in the gulf area, by police, national guard, home owners, renters and other looters.
"anyone who thinks scrappin is easy money ain't doin it right!"
