the spark test really doesnt work that good.....plus if you are buying scrap from somebody they might not have a grinder plus your going to ruin the wheel on that persons or shops grinder.
CARBIDE DOES NOT RUST OR PIT
carbide is dense like gold so it is heavier than it looks it is brittle so if you drop it, it will most likely shatter
only carbide or a diamond will scratch carbide, it is the second hardest material on earth next to a diamond and scratching it by hand is very difficult. It will not have a peel when scratched
the number 1 test is with a
magnet and the one I use the most, it is LIGHTLY magnetic! at our shop I have a steel drill bit to compare the pull from the magnet.
Heavy and slightly magnetized are the key factors
